We still have DICE and Valve, and their MP games are FAR better anyway. I still think IW's single player stuff is untouchable though.

So I have seen a few posts to the effect that 'I don't want to give them even more money' does this mean that there is some bit of news I missed that suggests that the service is subscription based?

I still find Battlefield 2 to be better game than BF2142, one reason is Project Reality Mod for BF2. Arma/Arma2 and Operation Flashpoint have indeed tons of problems.
Waiting for BF3 to come out.

Well I played them all and I do somewhat agree with you. The learning curve on BF2142 is higher, as most coming over from BF2 aren't use to the faster pace and Classes. I've have had many of my friends repeatedly install and play BF2142, only a few ever got hooked, but those who did agree, once you get to a certain point, going back to BF2 becomes child's play.

BF 2142 just needs more city maps,etc... or just more maps. But I do feel it is a better over-all game. If you want to try it again, send me a PM, as I play BF2142 2-3 hours everyday.

good thing i did not pre order this game.
i know, for multi platform games that are on 360 and PC. chances are the pc version is tiny bit better looking due to higher res., AA, better texture ... thats about it..

developers are not even making an effort to utilize PC's power. games are console centric nowadays, which is why i am going to be waiting for a long time before i upgrade graphics card

oh btw this junk cost $59 USD iirc

at first they increase the price for cod:mw2 to 60$/€ and now they take away features that would have made people actually paying that price. wow, how retarted are those people at IW?

even if i'm not a fan of the cod:mw multiplayer and only played the singleplayer this is idd again a huge letdown for the pc community. if one developer does this it won't take long and others will follow. this is sad and so frustrating as it seems we can't do anything about it...

    Thanks for the clarification.

I always looked forward to the higher player severs in CoD...now it's going to be very hard to purchase this game knowing that it won't be there.

I think it's time to PC players to rely only on free pc games and donate their money to the teams who develop them, these blockbuster devs must know we are not stupid like them.

I am only playing quake live nowadays and it feels like i won't be leaving it soon.

valve lost my respect long time ago, since they started to trade 1$ for 1€. that L4D2 issue set it for me, I don't even have steam installed.

yeah i cant wait to get back on fast internet to play quake live
is it basically just free quake3?

    and yeah,
the two guys that got famous off starting the boycott closed it because "valve dropped the price to $33, all you have to do is buy 4 at once"
they consider a bundle discount to solve the problems of:
    - a $50 expansion (which is still $50 if you only want one copy)
    - split community
    - valve saying "free new levels, weapons and characters for L4D!" which only the first one has been delivered, and only barely

so now everyone that is saying that the boycott should not be ended is being made fun of "lol guys its OVER i mean valve is giving you the game for $33 and YOU STILL COMPLAIN LOL"

Every topic on the subject is vanishing almost as soon as it appears on the IW forum, damage limitation it appears to me.

I had to laugh though when I went to Amazon UK, the game is getting one star ratings already. Lets see if the ratings 'disappear' like what happened with Spore and the restrictive DRM.

Hitting 18710 now, last night when this started, I saw it with only 1200+ and now look at it grow.

IW has made a true misjudgement here.

Free games are split between badly unpolished Quake/Civ clones [Alien Arena, Sauerbraten, Freeciv] and interesting experiments that aren't actually any fun to play [Narbacular Drop, .kkrieger]. I'm all for the philosophy of free software, but when the free games are so vastly inferior to even compared with bargain bin retail titles from ten years ago I'm not willing to play them just to make a political statement.

I really love PC games, and whatever else they do DICE and Valve make great fun multiplayer titles and Infinity Ward, Bethesda and 2K make great singleplayer, for me at least it is going to take quite a lot more interference and heavy handedness on their part before it outweighs the fun I have playing the games that they release. If and when this does happen I will not switch to free software which I don't enjoy any more than I will switch to Bejewelled or Microsoft Hearts, I will simply find a new hobby.

Yeah, basically it is, but has tiny modifications in: weapons beahviours/status, physics and also has some new maps, but it's really cool.

I don't think you need a really fast conenction for it to work good, just try it out.

Like was said, all those reasons they listed were bull, the only reason their doing this is to sell map packs after the fact. What better way to sell way more copies of tiny amounts of content then if you completely stop the ability for the community to make their own.

They've lost all respect from me. They went from a company who makes a good video game... to a company who completely screws PC gamers like EVERYONE ELSE.
