    Project Millertime - A Core I5 750 build

    Alright guys,

Here is the worklog. Bear with my pictures please, as I am still a little new to taking photos.

    List of components:

    EVGA P55 FTW
    Core I5 750
    EVGA GTX295 single PCB
    4 Gigs Corsair DDR3-1600
    WD Velociraptor 300 GB
    Corsair HX1000
    Coolermaster Cosmos 1000
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

    Watercooling Gear:

    Swiftech XT
    EK GTX295 FC block Acetal/Nickel
    Swiftech MCR320-QP and MCR220-QP
    PrimoChill Typhoon III w/D5 vario
PrimoChill Pro LRT black tubing 1/2" ID 3/4" OD
    BP fittings
    DW+silver

The Cosmos 1000 is powdercoated black. It was also modded to house the MCR220-QP on the bottom, and a MCR320-QP up top. Everything is internal.

    The T3 loop order:

    Subloop 1: T3 top > Swiftech MCR320-QP > Swiftech XT > T3 top
    Subloop 2: T3 bottom > Swiftech MCR220-QP > EK GTX295 FC > T3 bottom

CPU temps have peaked around 53 C @ 3.6 with turbo on using OCCT. Screenshots on posted further in.

    Thanks for looking in.

All right millertime... you've been talking about this build in threads for long enough, good to see a log started. I've been seriously considering using that board for an upcoming build and I'm also a swiffy rad fan. So I'm looking forward to this one. subscribed!

    Thanks guys.

I've been working on sourcing parts moe. I didn't want to start the buildlog with nothing to show.

Now as soon as USPS figures out New Baltimore MI is not Southfield MI, I might be able to hook everything up and test it. They say I should have it around Tuesday now. :crosses fingers:

    Some photos:

Corsair HX1000 will be sleeved. I'm just waiting for the MB to get here so I can test everything.

The Core I5 750 batch number: L926B439. My goal is 3.8 on this. It seems this batch number is capable of 4.0, but I think a goal of 3.8 should be fine.

4 GB Corsair Dominator Dual Channel DDR3 1600 @ 1.65v The P55 boards seem to be limited to 1.65v.

EVGA GTX295 Co-Op. I'm a bit excited about this card.

EK GTX295 Full Cover Acetal/Nickel block. This really is a great looking block. I looked at few others, but I ended up getting this one because I like the Acetal cover.

That's all for now. I will update later in the week when I get the P55 FTW in and I'm waiting on the HD too.

    Thanks for looking in.

MicroCenter has the the Core I5 for $170 (walk-in only) I think you can find it for about $200 elsewhere. The EVGA P55 FTW is around $230 I found the GTX295 on E-bay for $400 brand new. The ram is around $100.

Hey, Miller. Nice 295. I would be careful about laying it on things like a towel, though, as it's an efficient static conductor. Same goes for the RAM, motherboard, etc.

Jeez, in my country, I5 245$, the same mbo doesn't exist in our shops, but asus P7P55D is 210$.

    That's pretty awesome

    Good luck with the build.

Yea, I had to find best spot for photos. I've had the humidifier running too, so air isn't very dry. They rest of the photos probably won't involve those towels. I'll be testing everything later this week, so we will check to be certain there aren't any issues.

Hey bud, can't wait to see more pics. I do have a question in your first photo here

How did you mount the fan above the vid card? Is it just sitting there or?

That is just an 80mm NB fan sitting on top of the video card. It's not attached in anyway. It's just there to get some air moving across the NB and ram.

I almost forgot to reply to Nils. Thanks Nils. I only hope to not embarrass myself too bad with the camera.

    Small update:

It seems that USPS finally figured out where I live and I should have the motherboard tomorrow. Lets hope it made its nice scenic trip in one piece.

I will work on photos of it tomorrow and I hope to be able to get test everything by the end of the week.

    Thanks all.

Hey Miller, it's about time!!! J/K

I'm looking forward to seeing more, your previous build is HQ (high quality) so I expect this to be even better. BTW New Baltimore is a nice area, I have family there too, although they don't water cool.

So you're shooting for 3.8GHz? Seems like these i5 chips love to run at 4.0 with pretty low volts... I hope you find great results here.

Good choice on the board! I was considering the EVGA P55 mATX board, but it took too long to be released! Also, have you considered checking out that Apogee XT wb? It's the new hotness on the waterblock scene (as you probably know). Supposedly beats the HK by a couple degrees, although not that you need it, because 4GHz is pretty easy.

So needless to say I'll be watching. I'm very familiar with that cosmos so I'm excited to see what you do with her!
    Current: AMD Threadripper 1950X @ 4.2GHz / EK Supremacy/ 360 EK Rad, EK-DBAY D5 PWM, 32GB G.Skill 3000MHz DDR4, AMD Vega 64 Wave, Samsung nVME SSDs
    Prior Build: Core i7 7700K @ 4.9GHz / Apogee XT/120.2 Magicool rad, 16GB G.Skill 3000MHz DDR4, AMD Saphire rx580 8GB, Samsung 850 Pro SSD

    Intel 4.5GHz LinX Stable Club

Have been looking forward to this build Miller, excellent to see it has started, I will be following your progress.

Is there really much difference between the batches of CPUs and does this affect the clockability (if that is even a word?) of a CPU when OC.

Where can you find out the best batch numbers for i7s?

Yea, I figured it not a bad idea to set my goal a little low, so I'm not disappointed if this chip turns out to be a non clocker.

I just got that HK block, and I like the layout of it, so that is the reason why I plan to keep it. If the 1156 kit doesn't come out soon for it, I may end up just getting the new XT. I talked to Gary last week and he hopes they will be in soon, even though he still doesn't have any ETAs.

Each chip clocks a little different, some Core I7s can clock up over 4.0 with low voltage, and some can't even break 3.8, no matter what voltage you put to them. It seems the batch numbers are a good guideline to help you find a good clocking chip. You can check the Core I7 OC thread on the Intel section. It seems most guys post their batch numbers.

    Thanks for looking in guys.
