I own a Xonar DX with the Rampage Extreme 2 plus 2 Bose loudspeakers and a Technics amplifier. The sound quality is far better than the sound card provided with the Rampage, especially on music and games.

Anyone in the sound department of this forum will tell you to get an Auzentech Forte.

I just got the Forte a couple weeks ago and it is friggin awesome. Especially with a good pair of headphones. The sound quality and volume are both an order of magnitude better than the card that comes with the board.
If I'm a danger to myself just think what I could do to you.

I just reinstalled Win 7 Ultimate, the full commercial version and I could see all cores right from the get go without having to change the boot settings however so perhaps it was a bug that was addressed in the RTM version.

    Is this right?
    Nevermind the excessive as5.
Notice the hs/waterblock isn't even touching the outer part of the cpu's.
No wonder one of the cores is warmer than the others.

2 different cpu's look like this.
I think it's has something to do with the backplate on the otherside of the socket.

    Any solutions or suggestions?

Cores are centered mate, so contact with the outside edges isn't a 100% requirement for good cooling... for the core temp differences that's pretty normal. Which WB are you using ?

Could be you overtightened one side a bit more unless you are using a Swiftech mount, check the IHS for flatness. For my WB mounts I always use a caliper to achieve equal pressure on each side

Thanks for the pix of the cpu. That helps alot.
Same result for 2 different cpus.
I'm pretty careful on how I tighten down the wb.
I've reset the wb 3 times tonight just to make sure.
Not using the Swiftech backplate. I'm using one that I can use 2 1/2 bolts to go through.

    Thanks for the reply Leeghoofd.

Yellow lines indicate how to apply paste to the CPU... might be worth a shot (I think you spread yours out with a credit card or such ?).. .If the Swiftech block is well mounted the TIM should spread out evenly (all depending on ya IHS of the CPU ofcourse)

Also the stock Swiftech mount is precalculated for non lapped CPU's (like yours) for perfect/ideal pressure (I think EK waterblocks is prepping a sortlike mounting soon )

Right so got the rig stripped this morning and CPU and IOH/SB block fitted and wen to to the 'fets with the two TR-HR-09s i bought, one fits fine the other is way, way off.
I checked again on their site, third row down:
    http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_pa.../05-09-mcl.htm

The HR-09s Type3 is a no go, too short and too wide, the only one they make that might have fitted is the type4 only it is too short too.

The red circles show where there are other chips that are too tall to allow types 1-3 to fit and the orange square shows how short the type 3 is by almost 4x regulators.

Here be a pickkywick to illustrate my annoyance:

Is it me, am i missing summat or is this just wrong on TR's part. Could be a board revision but i can find no evidence of this.

Also the QPI-DRAM Power Card, does this need cooled, can i lose it? in some pics ive seen it left off when using another waterblock on the IOH/SB.

Got my 920 running at 4Ghz with no issues on this board Would like to try and stretch my 1866 ram to 2000 but am worried about voltages. As far as I know there is an on-chip voltage for the mem controller and voltage for the ram itself, what would be a good couple of settings for these that are 100% safe? (I heard they must be within a certain range of each other)

Also from reading this thread it seems 215 is pretty much the max bclk?

Affiliate13, did you pull the qpi/dram card out? If so, can you show a pic of how?
I wasn't quite sure how or if it was removable.

Once you get the ROG yoke off you can see how it detaches.
Its really just a bunch of pins that lifts out, its stiff but not glued.
Infact Malik sent me a link to how this guy modded it:

From pic 11 onwards he shows a little guide on how to mod it once you get it off.
In the pic with the little copper sink the two black pin housings on either side it where it comes out, even pressure will ease it out you dont need much effort at all.

The thread doesnt show it fitted without the ROG sink whilst still mounted on the board, so i know what you mean, but it unscrews easily and comes off with the stock heat pipe assembly.

As to how it effects performance, well thats a good question, idk yet as everything is on hold a few more days until i get my extra blocks.
I plan to take off the black sink i have on it now and fit a nice big enzotech cooper job on there with the acrylic backplate solution in the previous link.

I just need my 'fet blocks to arrive pronto and i can get back at it.

    Hi all,

i have some questions regarding my new system:

    Rampage II extreme
    i7 950
    12GB Ram (different tripple Kit's 1: 3x2GB Mushkin 998696ES & 3x2GB Mushkin 998687)

I have OC'ed the system and it's rockstable (for me it does 20Linx runs with all mem)

    Bios settings:
    BCLK is 219
    Multi 21

    Vcore 1,36875
    Dram Voltage 1.65681
    QPI/Dram 1.36250

here's a screen with the used settings:

My question now, the LCD Poster from the RII tells me mostly lower voltage for QPI, even if i turn off all energy savers like Eist, c1E, states it say's 1.323 for the QPI Voltage

Are this settings are safe for 24/7 usage?

I mainly do 3d Renderings with this Rig, also some gaming (EQ2)

CPU is Watercooled and reaches 72C after the Linx runs on the hottest Core.

    HT is enabled.

    Thanx

    tryn

That must be a golden 950 you got there... I've hardly seen one do over 4.5 stable with almost 4000 uncore on such low volts... care to share some more test screenshots and the batch of that CPU plz ?

That's a great OC, congrats. No one can say what's safe for sure, but your voltages look reasonable for long term use in my opinion anyway.

What's the batch of your cpu?

Leeg - I was thinking the same thing, and it's running 12GB as well. Very nice.
