I've been sleeving the round pin molex adapters from ages ago but the atx and pci express pins are an entirely different breed. These guys make it look easy but I guess it depends on the manufacturer. I think it's easier to cut the pins off and recrimp or make up news cable myself

With a fully modular PSU, it seems like it would be easier just to buy a bunch of black 18AWG wire, gold pins, black molex connectors and a nice crimping tool for the pins. That way, you could make/sleeve your own cables with custom lengths. Has anyone done this here?

I ordered my new Seasonic X750 PSU and I am trying to decide if I should mod the existing cables or just build new ones.

I believe there are several examples in this thread of people doing what you suggest, Zorlac (but it's too many posts to go through!). I experimented with using my own wire and making all new cables, but had better luck with just cutting the existing ones to length, re-crimping, then sleeving:

(apologies to those who've seen these pics before)

I did that with my modular HX620, although it's not a full modular PSU.

I looked around for a fully modular PSU but only found Silverstone's older model with substantial watts.

Seems like the X Series is an excellent unit.

Here is a custom length Sata Power Cable I made :

Perfect length from the PSU to the DVD-ROM and Hard Drive, too bad the 24 pin and 4 pin are a little too long, and there's a PCI-E 4 pin hiding somewhere...

One more thing I noticed, I can't recall which PSU I was looking at, but the wire gauge don't seem to be the same for all wires, some are 18 AWG, some 20 AWG, some 22 AWG even

I made one of my HX620s fully modular. You can cut the hard wired cables and attach pins a few inches from the PSU case and put a new 24 pin there. Then use a 24 pin extension and make a custom length cable to suit your needs....

Don't limit yourself to "fully modular" out of the box when you can get whatever PSU you want and make it that way....

The problem with that is, the cables breaking out of the small holes are a mess!

It's fine without sleeving, but with mono sleeves and shrink, not all the non-modular wires can fit well in that small hole.

A fully modular will be better esthetically.

Ugh...didnt know that there could be different gauges in one PSU. Guess I will try to mod the Seasonic X750 stock cables then. Already got my Pyschopack ready to go. If it turns out good, I will post pics.

Thanks Nils - the blues look good together.

@ Clone38 - the MDPC-X red sleeving requires no tape.

Red sleeving requires no tape, at least not on single wires. I sleeved my pump with it and the wires are a bit thick all clumped together, so it almost shows through, but only if you're really close.
