Wow, going to be interested to see that side panel when done. How are you going to do the 3D image?

Actually, the idea is to have the image as the underlay, but it's easier to create it as an overlay in max.. giving it the 3D-effect as if it's sticking out slightly from the rest of the panel. I can recreate it as an underlay to have it more accurate. The idea right now is to have the image cut into the side panel and to underlay it with acrylic on the inside to give it a body.

I do kind of like having the image extend slightly off the side panel like it is in the pictures, though. I'll be looking at several different designs and colors over the next week and shortly after will also design the custom front panel that will be going on as well.

I'll be in the design stage for at minimum another two weeks because I want to get this right. No do-overs, because I don't feel like buying another case if the panel doesn't come out looking how I want it to.

New side panel shots using a chrome/glass effect instead of black acrylic.

I liked the other ones better. I like the ghosting effect. It makes people want to look a little closer.

Thanks, man. I'll keep the light a secret for later.

Fair enough, thanks for the feedback. I'll be splashing a few more designs up over the coming days before I decide on a final version. Also will be modeling the custom front panel, as well, and doing a complete model of the case and layout. I want to know exactly what everything will look like before it goes off to cutting and painting.

Ofcourse it is your case. So which ever you want is the best.

I'm a ghost flame fan. I like simple and subtle things that people can often over look if they don't know what they are looking at, or don't look closely enough.

No, I truly am looking for feedback. Like I said, no design at this point is final, and I'll take all opinions into consideration.

Yeah, design II would be good for that. It actually came about by mistake as I had altered a lighting property that flipped the chrome solid black. Sometimes you discover new things that way.

Thanks. I'm learning as I go. Max seems to be absolutely limitless; it is a truly amazing piece of software. So many options, too little time. Video tutorials have helped, though. It's very user-friendly once you learn the basics.

Once you get the basics down and think you have the hang of things, you get into materials, lighting and shadows which make a world of difference in your render. It's almost like starting all over again. Fun, though.

i'm going to die of jealousy before you get this case done...

regardless which design you choose, this case is going to be sick!

edit: design II definitely has the more subtle, sexy look while design III has a more flashy edge to it... kinda diggin the subtle look myself, keep em comin! I NEED MOAR!!! :P

Xaxis, you have plenty of skills, my friend. I'm still looking forward to seeing how that monstrosity of yours turns out. Best to take your time, though, and have it turn out just as you envisioned.

    Thank you for the compliment.

Thanks again. Where the side panel is concerned, I'm almost at the point now in saying "if it isn't broken, why fix it?" I'm pretty content with the design itself as/is and will probably just be doing some slight color/material modifications on it from hereon. Plenty more renders to come, though, as I'm still laying out all the componentry in max and will probably start on the front panel design tonight.

    Loonym...You are missed.

    The element of one

    Breathe me in
    Breathe me in

I disbelieve in separation. I close my eyes to see you.
This is for you, everything I am. This is for you, take it from me.
I, I disbelieve separation. I close my eyes
    there's no escaping me
This is for you, everything I am. This is for you, take it from me.
In your heart in your soul. I perceive rejuvenation

Breathe me in. I am forever. Deep within I am eternal.

I will return to you. I am with you always. I will never turn away from you.
