    Hwbot drops support for F1OC.

As of today, hwbot officially drops support for the F1OC competition. We applaud the idea of a worldwide manufacturer team competition, but we strongly disagree with how it is organized and are not allowed to make improvements. Allowing participants to submit both on hwbot and by email, is confusing and causes grievance between the participants. The competition organizer does not want to drop the possibility of email submissions, as hwbot does not provide PSU, HDD and component price data. Entering this data in the description does not suffice. This requirement was not know to us until a month into the competition.

Attempts of both the hwbot crew and the overclocking community to improve the competition fell on deaf ears, forcing us to officially say no to the way the competition is held.

The running competition will be closed on hwbot, please use email to submit future F1OC entries.

Losing hwbot support is not the right path to go here. The bot is the glue that binds

I can't see F1OC going anywhere but down now. It's an online sport, one very simple website is not enough to spread the word and get public interested. And the worse part is that next year, when they will want to restart F1OC, hardware manufacturers can just say "You had your chance and you blew it".

Come on Guys!! Nothing ever starts perfect but I agree there is much need for improvement. Don't kill this before it has a chance to start. How about an end to the constant bickering, infighting, innuendos, accusations, etc. etc.?? Get the "bot" back and start enjoying this hobby for what it is.....FUN!!!!!!

well hwbot will be around either way, they dont really need f1oc... they can launch their own competition...
i dont know the details, but from the hwbot statement it sounds like they tried to work things out... and i know frederik, petri and massman, they are nice people... if they decided to this they must have had their reasons...

With all due respect Paul, your posts particularly were among the ones that brought the section into the state it is. We're discussing possibilities of what to do next. If it's reopened it will be so only for a very select few, perhaps competitors only, or perhaps it won't be at all.

Just about everyone was making themselves look bad.

No other outcome really. The structure and rules of the competition is making the competitors look bad through no fault of their own. The same is true for anyone else or organizations associated with the competition. Using a chainsaw for an abortion wouldn't result in this kind of mess.

    .. and xs drops too

It's really bad, because I can show pics, results to my supports with two less sites

Here it was really hard to get sponsors..so it's sad news..

I hope the people finish the provocation. Lots of person says F1OC how bad..many posts was negative..and they didn't give any idea how will better.

We need find out clear rules together, and enjoy overclocking, thats it.

yes, i really hope something good comes from all this...
its up to both sides, people need to provide propper feedback and suggestions, and the organizers need to listen to it and try to implement it... sounds like there were mistakes made on both sides... i hope theres not too much grief over this that prevents everybody from moving forward...

When the F1OC threads were first opened, I flooded them with ideological essays on what overclocking needs to become in order to slough off this pettiness we've developed and make progress towards a legitimized future in which we can compete using the same standards as other as yet more recognized competitive venues.
    Not a single reply.

If you really want to know what I think in depth and the logic behind it go for a search because I'm done with this, but I will say this:
In order to progress, overclocking must be institutionalized. We cannot continue to be marshaled so heavy-handedly by an oligarchy of marketing departments whilst we are left to squabble amongst ourselves to piece together some semblance of order, or even scrape in desperation for the dregs of civility.

    +1 Slovnaft

I have talked to several HWbot people and really don't get the thought pattern of Nick, to still comment the engine is/was not ready...

At sir Fugger : it's best to keep the thread open for positive and negative feedback so we can keep up giving new inputs... F1OC urgently needs improvements/updates/changes in the rules and I hope Nick will crack under the pressure of the Xs and co community to apply them asap... this to even have a small possibility for a 2nd season

OK so I stayed up late getting all the round two results up before flying to my sister's wedding in France. This is my first time back on the internet and all hell has broken loose.

I simply cannot believe all of what I am reading. Conspiracyt theories and utter rubbish everywhere.

    To clarify a few things.

HWBot's engine never worked and I never asked them to use it. I accepted submission because people were using it but it was never the main choice because it never worked. Hence asking for email.

Apparently people don't trust competitors emailing me scores. WTF?

Apparently everyone is confused by the rules... what? submitting one score per month? What on earth is the problem with that?

I've looked accross every thread on both sites for this... it's a few people stirring up trouble.

The scores are great. The industry support is great. Most accusations are near total rubbish.

HWBot is totally out of order for what they did.

As I said god knows how many times... this is season one and rules will evolve until round two. What people are complaining about is ridiculous.

It will continue because I've spent a fortune and loads of time on making it happen and am not about to let a handful of vociferous moaners spoil everyone's hard work.

A lot of people have shown their true colours here and it's very disapoointing.

    Submit a score a month.

    Simple.

A few people are complaining about bleeding time zones like it's the end of the world. Get a grip.

    There's no pleasing some people.

But some people, more than others, should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

    Round three is happening.

I'll be pruning the hell out of the forums from now on. The moaners can off. I'm all for free speech but if Charles is going to pull the whole thing because of flame wars, I don't blame him. I'm utterly disgusted.

I've often found that with whiners on the internet, if they are ignored long enough, they will eventually accept anything or at least gtfo.

Hwbot never worked ? How the heck could you post scores and co then ? Maybe they didn't want to add some stuff you absolutely wanted in there ?

Moaners, stirring up,... those are heavy words as most of us just want things to get better or at least improve for the next rounds... (attack is the best defense ?) You keep on quoting this is the trial year... Come on Nick act and react or even correct some of the major flaws... I know it's very easy to adress negative points, but in my opinion positive things work and don't need a correction...

I won't rest till something is done (love me or hate me for it, I don't give a flying ....) I don't even care if I get banned here for moaning all the time. So be it...that's the admins choice(s), Deep down inside I know that I'm representating the thoughts of many as this competition is not only discussed here... yet some rather prefer to remain silent, to each his own... but I don't think keeping silent solves anything...

Like quoted many times before : the scores are all okay to me, they all benched hard and merit the points... it's just the way how it all comes together at the end of the month that get's more attention then the actual results... this due to major holes in the rules... which you absolutely keep on stubbornly ignoring for the time being as it remains a trial year...

Do you think Fugger pulled it due to the flame wars ? Or is there another reason ?

I really think you need to get some fresh air, go back in and then have a good look in the mirror and ask yaself one question : Why does all this happen ?

I want this to get better, not trying to crush it... I know it's hard when people ( even outsiders like me ) are commenting on ya baby, but I don't understand why you don't even try to look at your precious from our point of view..

A tip : Don't look too far for an answer... and due to this F1OC I'm almost starting to smoke again looooooool

Nick (is that your name?), I know I don't have much clout.

I'm slinking back to this thread to address something that I feel needs to be brought out.
I think it needs to be recognized more widely just how much time and effort this must have taken to organize even in preliminary imperfect stages, and how noble of a concept it represents in theory.
I do agree that F1OC has come under a lot of fire both deservedly and unduly, and this is exactly what I've been trying to say.
The divisiveness of F1OC was just as much, if not more so, a function of the state of our community, the knee-jerk reactions of those involved in the competition and the, to a degree, unwarranted negativity of those not, than of the actual flaws in the system.

That is why I believe that there is something so fundamental about this situation that will cause us problems as a community as we try and progress in ways like this.

Nick, your intentions were pure and no one could ask that your execution have been better: you are only human, and this is a very hard thing to do. But there are larger things at work here which need to be resolved before Overclocking can deserve a fair, legitimized, smoothly run competitive arena like F1OC may have been, and can yet become.
