    Very quick 3 x HD5870 benchmark

Ok, so a few days ago I was testing for an article regarding 5870 multi-card performance scaling. And while I was at it, I noticed the obvious, these puppies need a stronger CPU even when ther run at stock speeds. So I pushed my litle i975 up a little bit, and there you go, some lame, air-cooled, stock clocks VGA results

Don't get scared by the old GPU-Z wrong readings of the specs, 0.3.5 didn't work for me with 3 cards under WIN 7

    Intel Core i7 975 @ 4900MHz (lame)
    Asus P6T7 Supercomputer
    3 x 2GB Kingston DDR3 2000 CL8
    Asus HD5870 / Gigabyte HD5870 / HIS HD5870 - 850/1200MHz
    OCZ EliteXtreme 1000W

finally some CFX! 03 looks very good on these cards so far - hoping that the low-bug is not that hard on 5870 anymore! looks very promising what you have shown us, now start kicking VGA and damn get that CPU past 5.2

Not much of a gain from 3 HD4890's though.

Very nice... scaling looks great... I love this 2003.
Please can you test the CPU scaling? I bet the score will raise huge with higher CPU clocks... we will see

hiwa - no major problems bro, but on the P6T7 they are pretty close to each other, so they get really hot even at stock clocks. This should not be an issue under cold though. Also, the software suport is flimsy yet, they can be overclocked one at the time with AMD GPU Clock Tool or CCC, or even Riva Tuner with edited config, but...it does not feel right yet. I suppose pretty soon this will be solved.

loopy83 - I will test with a different CPU once I fill my LN2 tanks again, and maybe I will get higher clocks on the CPU. Untill now, just to see the scaling with the cpu, I had the following results with the same CPU at 4GHz and WIN 7 32 (results are worse on Vista x64):

    2003 - 143677
    2005 - 35741
    2006 - 28304

sofos1990, crustytheclown, ZoLKoRn - thx guys LN2 results will come a little bit later, once I finish with some stuff. Untill then, I will show you guys how 4 cards work, but unfortunately I do not have LN2 for the CPU anymore at the moment, so the scaling will be poor.

Well, if I knew I should have posted 2 days ago when I got the results, but I thought they were a little bit to lame, all stock cards and such

One funny thing though. It is the FIRST time in my life ever when I put on the system more the one ATI card, and after the drivers are installed and I restart the system, the crossfire is enabled without any problems. Usually I would have to struggle a make it work, now it just works from the first re-boot.

its very tight between the cards.. how is cooling affected on the upper card, from being so close to the lower card?
    Watercooled AMD Phenom II X2 550BE @ X4 3700mhz (1.44V), ASUS M4N72-E, 2x2gb Corsair XMS2 ram, Geforce 9800GTX+ SLI running 780/1222mhz.

All the cards are affected by this, except the last one. They get pretty hot, so the fan has to be kicked up to 60-70% to keep everything ok, even at stock clocks.

ZoLKoRn - I would bro, but I had to fight an army of AMD ninjas to get these, so I must use them fast, untill they find me

Ok, I will try when I get some SS or something cold on this CPU. The ideea is that driver support is probably pretty poor atm, allready I see lower numbers then I saw with 3 cards

I don't think we will see so much increase in 3dmark results with 5 ghz core i7...

These vga's are very powerful, there is too much cpu bottleneck.

Monstru can u run a 3dmark vantage gpu test xtreme to show the real gain of 5870 crossfire?
