I don't understand why there are still no performance numbers. They're shipping the chip and isn't it time we saw some benchmarks and comparisons to CF/SLI?
The tech and logic behind this whole Hydra project is really intriguing, but it's funny how the only thing that gets talked about is the tech and not the actual performance numbers. Because you know, it wouldn't be that much of an unbelievable amazing awesome deal if it performed worse than or equal to CF and SLI.

Lucidlogix is probably holding out on H200's specs & performance figures, until after MSI is able to release their (HYDRA 200) "Big Bang" motherboard. I'm quite sure MSI is planning some fanfare around this boards release...
I'm pretty sure, thats when we'll see actual figures and benchmarks, etc ...!
Makes sense, as pre-holiday season is a great time to market your company as the "high-end" mobo company, in the likes of EVGA classified, etc...
Easy, if you are the only one with a Hydra 200 chip..! So it's probably a well guarded secret right now.
so xoulz, you actually think hydra is great?
this thread is creeping me out... your weird :P
and cirthix, yes afaik thats what the chip is doing so it doesnt have to go from second card to cpu and then sent back to the card that displays.
not sure though...
dont be so hard on xouls saaya... smoke a good joint and everything he says will make perfect sense...
your pc will speak for a moment aswell... just ignore it...

I love the concept.. and from the looks of it it's going to work..... I can't wait to see some benches and stuff..

Cool video. Looking forward to a crossfire/sli hybrid review using that MSI p55 motherboard.

I see this as a mainstream product for two reasons:
1- You now don't have to worry about changing your GPU solution when you upgrade. You can just add the next best thing for you in there and it'll work even better!
2- It sounds cheap to produce from what I understand so it'll most likely be more easily adopted by mobo makers.
Maybe it won't give the perfect scaling (even if x58 doesn't quite do it perfectly yet either) or be the revolution the OP seems to think it will be, but it sure as hell going to be an improvement that will find its way around!
I want to know how the different gpu drivers work together... for nvidia and ati
edit: nvm he is talking about it...
It doesn't cause problems in windows 7 at all?

so if this gives better scaling... wouldn't it actually be better to say
Have two individual 5870's in hydra than one 5870x2? Even though both perform the same outside hydra... would the 5870x2 in fact perform worse?

Those^^ types of comments are a big cop-out.
Time for a dose of reality. Lucidlogix @ IDF 2009, (backed by Intel themselves) demonstrating for everyone to see, their latest multi-GPU solution, using the latest OS (Windows7) and you are saying it is a hoax and a total flop?
Or, is it you are just unwilling to accept it?

I think my question still stands, anyone have an answer to it?
It would be hard to say... seems like it all depends on the latency of the hydra.. if it adds or removes it. Scaling on xfire tends to be pretty efficient, on 4870x2 you have almost 80% sometimes higher (in games at least). I think the main advantage will be the intercard usage, 4870 + 5870 etc... things like that, and intercard support when that arrives as well.

What facts don't you know, that somehow you need to know, before you'll accept what you saw in the video as real...?
- Did you even read the IDF 2009 press release..?
- Or MSI's announcement..?
Honestly, unless you calling this whole thing a hoax, you have to accept what they are saying as true. right? Obviously, we just don't know how well HYDRA 200 works, but you can clearly see that it works.
So, why not just wait like the rest of us to witness the performance figures ( scaling, latencies, etc) @ the BIG BANG !!
But even without any figures, nothing in that video excites or impresses you?
good job contradicting yourself,
first you say you have facts, then post a press release and an announcement. wow didnt i just say all you have is what the marketing department wants you to have, and i doubt they contain actual numbers or test data
then you go right ahead and say you dont even know how well it works, which is all im looking for, and which is whats preventing people from really caring about this.
i can sit here and dream about how well it will work, how compatible it will be, how i can get it for dirt cheap. but so far its just dreams until we see a real review and tests of multiple configurations. then they have to make sure its available and priced well. imagine i go ahead and get one for an AM3 mobo, the one with the hydra costs 50$ more, but lets me keep my 4850 when i upgrade to a 5850 (when they go for 150$). now here's the question, how efficiently does the 4850 have to scale with the 5850 before my extra cots is covered by the extra frames? given 5850 goes for 150$, then i need to see a 30% increase over stock 5850 speeds for it to be worth getting a hydra based mobo, otherwise my $ per frame goes down.
now that was with fake numbers, but you see where the cost and the scaling efficiency, needed to be near perfect for this to worthwhile for such a simple and common scenario.
OK... I understand now.
You simply don't believe your eyes. Everything is FAKE until someone else benches the Hydra 200 within a game, right? That video is fake (nothing to discuss there), press release is fake (nothing to discuss there, either) and MSI announcements and the highly anticipated BIG BANG is fake too (because you don't have performance figures).
We have 28 days left until we all know the actual specs . But we already know what to expect... near 100% scaling. Because, like everything else, they told us and showed us what to expect.
As for you little scenario... here a direct quote from the PR:
For the first time ever, motherboard, graphics card manufacturers and users can have the flexibility to use different combinations of GPUs from AMD (ATI) and NVIDIA in notebooks and PCs. The solution delivers faster 3D graphics at consumer price points.
The new HYDRA 200 SoC is Lucid’s second generation parallel graphics processor that works with any GPU, CPU or chipset to provide scalable 3D graphics performance in a multi-GPU computing environment. On display for the first time at IDF 2009 (booth 213) HYDRA 200 is faster, more flexible, smaller and more power-efficient than its predecessor silicon, the HYDRA 100.
“We’ve further refined our HYDRA engine and made it faster and more flexible, allowing for a near limitless combination of GPU’s,” said Lucid vice president of research and development, David Belz. “HYDRA 200 allows the consumer to get more ‘bang for their GPU buck’ by extending the life of their current GPU investment, providing even faster graphics performance and later upgrading their system with whatever card they choose.”
Until now, multi-GPU systems have been graphics vendor specific and generally require the consumer to be fairly technically savvy. With Lucid HYDRA 200, OEMs can offer custom configurations at different price/performance targets, and consumers will be able to easily add graphics hardware to achieve an overall performance boost without the worry of compatibility.
Gamers with a need for speed now have a solution that’s optimized for their performance requirements by allowing them to choose the right chip for the job, or simply upgrade without
throwing away the old one. HYDRA 200 currently supports Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems as well as DirectX 9c and 10.1 standard APIs and is DirectX11 ready.
So it seems, you being an incredibly consumer conscience person, you'd be nail to that countdown waiting... but really there is no need. How it works is simple. Add any Video Card to your System for near 100% scaling...!!
Simple! (Not hard to understand)
Coincidentally, nobody before this, was ever concerned about scaling on their SLI or Crossfire systems. Now many are overly cynical because this isn't SLI or Crossfire..? What exactly is SLI performance figures, do you know? Anyone? Did you consider the HD5870 & Eye Infinity technology fake until the NDA was dropped? Weird hunh?
So, why are so many people cynical when it comes to this technology... Is it the company? When we know the HYDRA 100 chip works and we've seen the HYDRA 200 in action..?
I think many are just unwilling to admit that this technology is actually here, period!

I don't think nvidia & ati would allow that easily lol they eventually make it scale worst than their platform (SLI & Xfire) by drivers prolly who knows but Lucid is totally againts Ati and nvidia have been promoting for a long time...

Just read this interesting interview. Very optimistic looking. However as they say the proof is in the pudding. I hope for everyone involved this works as promised.
