    Isn't that score to low for 5870 (or it's 5850)? I thought, that Cypress(5870) makes P21k?

    it supposedly made P18k iirc

lets just hope the release drivers are better than the beta drivers and also that it performs better in games than in 3dmark.

Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We expect to provide native support for 64-bit platforms in an upcoming release of Flash Player following the release of Flash Player 10.1.

    1) doubling them up for eyefinity @ 2560x1024

    2) if you use a single one then you're gonna get a very high fps.

    +1.

5870 is a great card, but this is ridiculous... And now rumors about not being able to buy one until first week of October... sheesh.

They should have put the damn things for sale at back computex.... could have moved 10 million units in the last 3 months...

that's one of the most aesthetic rigs i've ever seen. the green mainboard pcb kinda destroys the polished looking design of the rest though. should have been a black one!

sadasius' setup looks very s(l)ick as well

I would like to see benchmark results using NFS: Shift at 1920x1200, 4xAA, max .
Besides, a demo is out for it.

They're not rumors in my place at least, a couple of retail stores confirmed a 2nd week of Oct. release, 13th to be exact.
That was the official release date mentioned, not some pre-release items due to destro. connections.

It might be different in your place, still, many said its at 09-22/23. I'll just leave it to 22/23 for me to know.
Sept. 22/23 or Oct. 13 are the same date for me, since I won't buy a DX11 card until Q1 2010.

*BTW, my sig. is 4 days old.

Hhahah! good points, labs23 and nice sig. Looks like you're waiting for the nvidia dx11 cards, or low-end ati 5000 cards.

I sure hope they don't delay store purchases until oct 13th. that is just insane. Too bad it isn't friday the 13th of october

You'll need to aim higher than that. I'm playing the demo at 2560x1600, 8xAA on a lowly GTX 285

Or waiting for games worth upgrading for. What's the point in boosting up your FPS in games that run fine (except for Crysis) on your current hardware while you can save money by just waiting for price reduction.

I will be getting another 4870 or 4870X2 cheap to put in Crossfire (Tri-Fire ftw!) while waiting for new games, worth buying, to come out.

At what fps though? I get around 40-45 with 2x aa at that rez and max settings in the full game. I'm on an i7 920 @ 3.72, gtx 280, and 6gb ddr3. That is with 16x af though too... but it dips lower at some points... it's one of the reasons I want a 5870 now.

@3DMark score: My 8 months old card (295) posts 22924 GPU score in the same test, that's almost a 50% difference in performance and given that in higher resolutions SLI scales better I would expect that difference to widen (in higher res). Having said that I believe with proper drivers and a healthy overclock -5870- to reach the 20000 mark, still my card would be 20%-30% faster. Not too shabby for a previous gen card...

Having said that, synthetics do not tell much, I'm looking forward to see how the new ATI cards perform on real world gaming, I would hope that it would trump any previous gen card (like it should)...

When AMD had 64-bit and Intel had only 32-bit, they tried to tell the world there was no need for 64-bit. Until they got 64-bit.
When AMD had IMC and Intel had FSB, they told the world "there is plenty of life left in the FSB" (actual quote, and yes, they had *math* to show it had more bandwidth). Until they got an IMC.
When AMD had dual core and Intel had single core, they told the world that consumers don't need multi core. Until they got dual core.
When intel was using MCM, they said it was a better solution than native dies. Until they got native dies. (To be fair, we knocked *unconnected* MCM, and still do, we never knocked MCM as a technology, so hold your flames.)

What do you think would happen if we took 2 x HD 5870? Yours is a dual GPU and most importantly ATI didnt aim with HD 5870 for ultra high end. We still have to see xx90 and X2 cards.

    Sweet spot strategy!
