Thumbs down I wanted to review Corsair DOminator CM3X1024-1800C7D

    HEllo,

At first i want to say that I wanted to review this kit I got, but i'm really soryy about that i can't give you a report about this ram.

I wanted to look up the ICs, and I noticed that Corsair spends more money in GLUING THE ICs TO THE Heatspreader than in buying good working and well ocing ICs.

    And than it happened.

    System:

Bauknecht oven @ 250°C for about 10 min
    Corsair Dominator CM3X1024-1800C7D
A cutter with a fine blade

    results:

    Than it happened

But now I'm a bit more clever than i was today morning, that cost me 19€€€

You need to use a solvent to release the glue before trying to force the spreader off. BGA's won't withstand that kinf of force pulling at them as you found out.

Did you ask Corsair what IC's they used on these sticks before trying to pull the spreader off? I usually find they are quite forthcoming.

OMG!!! Sorry but are you realy so silly? (sorry for this hard words, but I can't understand you)

Corsair glues the ICs to the HS for better Heat-Transmission. And on Corsair Memory the Rev. Number shows you what IC's are used...

You can't blame Corsair you ruined your ram. It's at your own risk.

    glue for better heat transmission?
but yeah, ask corsair, they usually drop a hint of whats under the heatspreader if its not their latest product and they are worried of copys...

the same happened to me too though, and i never experienced mem chips coming off the pcb that easily...
maybe they use some special solder mix, idk... but you said you were supposed to review this? review corsair memory based on Z9 micron chips? those are ES gtr/gts chips... they are ancient!

I know that i can use the rev. NR to check what ICs they have, but I wanted to try it. It was the first time i did it with Corsair, I tried OCZ Team, G.Skill all without any problem but Corsair

It hasn't to do anything with SIllyness

You should have asked around before attempting this, but you won't do that again, I'm sure!

saaya mentioned something else that I noticed, why are they using ES chips on retail memory? Z9 is Micron's ES stuff, isn't it?

I know Cellshock had some of those chips in their retail kits, right Sascha? I didn't know they were that widespread.

everybody used those chips cause they were damn good, and retail chips would most likely be worse, like its almost always with mem chips...
micron gave an ok to sell them so we sold them, ocz, corsair and gskill did as well, dunno about others...

but that was way way back... like when p35 and ddr3 launched... the first ddr3...
i dont think they are sending out review kits based on that stuff anymore... if they do they deserve some cause whatever chips they use now will not clock like those chips at all... micron retail clocks worse, and other mem chips scale diferent timing and voltage wise..

*sigh* Corsair epoxies the ICs to the heat-spreaders to 1)keep the heatspreaders on without ugly clips 2) better aid in the transmission of heat. I was pretty certain everyone knew this, the only way to run Corsair sticks naked are receiving them straight from Corsair heat-spreader-less. I hope it wasn't a good clocking memory kit

Z9HWR talk about "old school" DDR3.
What a pity ( despite the fact that the best chips were the Z9HWQ's , the Z9HWR used to clock good as well )
