G92 -> G200 was hardly a 3x increase. It wasn't even a 2x increase. I still remember benchmarks showing the 9800 GX2 outperforming the G200.

G200 only outperformed the 9800 GX2 when VRAM usage exceeded the 9800 GX2's effective 512MB of RAM.
