It was a phenom2 for sure... it would be hilarious if amd would use a intel platform for there own graphic cards to test them.

Posting isn't the problem, it's re-posting the same huge images everyone's already posted, repeatedly, thus filling the thread with tons of needless scrolling even on my 2560x1600 monitor .

And it appears that the cores share a single memory controller. So I guess instead of calling it dual core it may be better to call it dual shader mega clusters.
I'll ask again - what in the world are you talking about? Moving stuff around on a die makes it easier to manufacture? So you think because there's space between the two groupings in the diagram yields are higher? Sorry, but it seems you're a bit out of your depth on this one

Hint: There's absolutely no technical reason to have all the shader clusters in a GPU physically next to each other in order for them to "communicate". Which is laughable since shader clusters don't communicate with each other even if they're physically nearby.

Btw, based on your logic GT200 has quad shader mega clusters

Well Of course AMD data would be on their own inhouse platform, but I wasn't sure if pre NDA data was mixed in with all the numbers we re seeing or if it was all AMD "factory" numbers

The 3DMark Vantage numbers were done with an i7... if you go back to the source it tells you somewhere... not sure if those benches were done by AMD or a 3rd party since the source was in another language but I wouldn't be surprised if AMD used Intel CPUs to get the best numbers like they did before.

it is ironic that they would use an intel cpu but if you look at amd right now they are graphics king and they need their gpu to be as fast as possible. the whole dragon platform thing does not apply here.

Considering AMD's Phenom II cpu's are nowhere near as powerful as the Core i7, why would AMD use their own cpu?

This thread is now 5th in the all-time post count in the news section Although, two of the threads that beat it were the 2900 and the "9900GTX" threads...a bad omen?

IIRC the ATI 4xxx series one was even higher than those and that did quite well I'd say

I said it before and I'll say it again. Ati really should of made that exhaust vent bigger. I can totally see a simple easy fix where the current vent slots are. If they would have just extended the vents down to the HDMI and display ports it would of been a perfect exhaust. I guess Ill just have to mod it myself, time to bust out the dremel from hell.

Some guy said 5870x2 will be around $500 - how's that gonna happen when 5870 itself is about $400?
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

As has been stated many times, there is no need. Considering the fairly low board power (for the performance anyway) and the sheer size of the cooling solution, you aren't going to need to move as much air to keep the thing cool.

By the time the 5870X2 comes out the 5870 will probably have had a few price cuts.

the prices of the 5870 could come down to 300ish by the time the x2 is out, and a price of 600 for an x2 would make much more sense. 500 is very doubtful if the x1 cards are anybit above 275.

Hmm. So 5870x2 will be out by October or November?

    Maybe I'll wait for it.

The size of the vent is definitely too small, even for a card with half the tdp of the 5870. This is not a low-power part.

Thats what im saying. It is such a easy fix too, look at all that room below the vents. All they need to do is extend the vents down and BAM problem solved and everyone is happy. That would double the vented area without any changes to the PCB.

Lets see how hot these puppys get at 1ghz overclocked!

Maybe a additional fan module that sticks outside the case on the cards vent that pulls air would be a great fit, effectively doubling airflow without actually increasing fan speeds and noise.

More like one of the worst coded games and a half-assed console port. It would still be interesting to see the performance though, as it is one of the only games that can chew up over a gig.

in games it doesn't matter if its phenom or intel cpu especially if res is high
