Thanks, i really hope that the price is wrong.. Since its said to take over between 4850 and 4870, but it would be more expensive than a 4890 that is quicker but lacks dx11 support

You won't see any 5850s @ 5870 speeds (maybe clock speeds but not performance)

    5850 apparently has 1440 shaders while 5870 has 1600

not confirmed like everything else... but it fits in my mind at least

So are these still slated to be available around September 23rd?

EDIT: Also just to note, if you get an IPS without a scaler (such as my Dell 3007WFP-HC 30" 2560x1600) the input lag isn't there.

    Question

Hey guys...I am new to the ATI world, so just wondering which card vendors are best? (i.e. Sapphire?)

I happen to like eVGA for nVIDIA cards, but not sure when it comes to ATI.

Think there will be any pre-orders at Newegg?

Sapphire cards aren't bad, but their customer service is horrid.

XFX has the best warranty in the game, but their cards are usually slightly higher priced to compensate for that fact.

HIS usually ends up with the best coolers for the cards, but that's not always on launch day.

At this point the only ATI cards I would touch are the ones from XFX.

in Sweden we go for cheapest.. We have two years warranty by law so paying the extra premium for XFX isn't necessary..

Is there a country without such a law? It's the applications of that law that differ from store to store, and brand to brand.

Nope, no difference between brands or stores. All electronic equipment has two years manufacturers warranty, if something happens the first 6 months it's up to the retailer/manuf to prove it was not wrong during manuf. the rest of the time it's up to the costumer.

You've got the right to get it repaired/exchanged/money back in that order (if the problem persists). This law is also applicable on used items sold by stores but with reduced period of time.

Asside from having terrible color depth, color consistency, and horrendous viewing angles, TN panels response times are grossly overrated. The 2ms TN panels out there have almost 50% of their grey to grey cycles in the 8-10ms range. There's no shame in saying something is outside of your budget, but saying you specifically went TN (like you had tons of money to blow) because it's so much better is a bit misleading. Consider the fact that millions of gamers (the 30 million or so) that play Gears/Call of Duty/Halo on TVs with 10-15ms response times--are they all complaining about getting lagged to hell?

The hard part with sapphire and others is getting them to do anything in the first place, and then the extremely long wait on getting something back. They WILL try and trick you in to taking a weaker card. Not sure if anyone remembers the people who were given x1950pros by sapphire in exchange for their x1900xt/xtx without word and told they were better cards because "the number is higher". Law or not, it's hard to enforce your law on a company that isn't in the same country as that law... Most they can do is claim you can't sell in there country, but they themselves don't sell in that country, the distributors do.

XFX doesn't care if you MELT the card over-clocking it. They WILL send you a new one as long as the sticker is still intact. Also, they then cover whoever you sell it to for as long as they have it as well.

The small premium isn't just for the warranty, but the perfect customer service they have.

Only two companies I'll deal with is eVGA and XFX if at all possible.

My GTX285 SSC runs close to 90C with Crysis on Very High/16xAF at 1080p. I wonder what kind of temps a 2GB 5870 will hit trying to max out Crysis.

Hard to compare the two like that.

Yeah, we're going to need hands-on experience for information like that (be it leaked, user review, official, or otherwise). Although the heatsink does look pretty beefy, so maybe we can get good temps AND low fan noise .

I see SOMEONE is casually posting again. You need to start helping out Gautum with the news section m8, he's running a triple shift

I second the advise though. Anyone jumping over from Nvidia should always go XFX before they try any of the other vendors.

Man, I was working 80+ hours a week, and stuck the rest of the time with the lady. Now that we're back to normal, I have returned...

Come on now, you know you missed me.
