Following that logic, I suppose you'll call GT200 a 240 core GPU (like how Nvidia's PR department does)?
RV870 seems to be RV770 scaled by a factor of 2, with maybe some internal tweaks, DX11 compliance and the ability to output to up to six monitors. I hardly doubt it has anything to do with dual core GPU's or whatever (and pardon my tone here) hogwash they've come up with on ATIforum.
I must say though, judging by the size of RV770 and its TDP, I don't see how AMD can put two of these GPU's onto a single card. This GPU is getting awfully close towards R600 in terms of size and power consumption.
I'm starting to think that the GPU powering HD5870 should be referred to as R800, with maybe two other slower/smaller/cooler chips (RV870?) powering an R880 (2xRV870). Oh well, we can only confirm once reviews come out.
