5870 will be more powerful if you go just by specs , recent leaks suggest the same , 4870x2 has scaling issues , 5870 will not , plus its unclear how much the design was changed in rv870 .AMd really delivered this time , everyone wanted the same transformation they had from 3xxx to 4xxx and we seem to be getting it , would be nice to see what NV has but at this point it will be hard for people not to jump the ship considering ATI has everything they wanted.

I hope the rumour that it will be benched tomorrow is true.

If most of this speculation turns out true then I'll know what it is like to experience a 9800 or 8800 ultra.

Unfortunately I got into gaming in the DIRE era when DX10 just came on the scene and cards were underpowered. I started off with an 8600 gts ....

Anyone know the pci-e speeds? Is that 166.4 GB/S gonna overload the 8x bus?

Can anyone tell if it's using two 6-pin, or 8-pin + 6-pin PCI-e? One connector looks bigger than the other to me.

Looks 6 and 8 to me.

So it begs the question, is it HD 5870 X2?

    NO, i think it's HD 5870 SIX 2GB... see the 6 mini DP connections on the back.... and if it's 6 + 8, then it's not 5850 or 5870... shoot i dunno...

the gap is there but after a while u dont even notice.
This is true, just watching the video i begun to forget the edge was there, but i guess it comes down to the person. Some people are very anal about this kinda thing and would not be happy unless the view is seamless.

Actaully you could call me an nVidiot (3 GTX280's) but i fell into these just through dumb luck, I first had 2 9800GX2's and i didnt want to really fork out for a new board when it was time to drop them. I only wish 775 had supported what the i7 supports now with both xFire + SLI. I'm happy to admit that i would drop these cards for the next best thing be it from nvidia or ATI

I enjoy benching alot and jumping fence is not a problem. I actually kinda like AMD/ATI just because it's not what most people go, it's not really the underdog it's more of the unknown.

Im still betting on those ports in the back being air-intakes for the centrifugal radial fan, but i could be wrong.

Looks like the same size as your 8800ultra, maybe 1/2-1inch shorter

hmm I don't think so, as GTX 285 has around 165 GB/s, and it dosnt get bottlenecked by x8 in most reviews I seen.

does that mean this card won't be bottlenecked on pci-e 1.1?

Kind of disappointing that its 8+6 pin for power. But I guess its the hard usage numbers that count.

All that bandwidth is transferred internally on the card between the GPU and it's memory for the workloads the GPU has to deal with. The PCIe bus isn't burdened with that kind of load at all, and doesn't have that kind of bandwidth anyway.

I cant believe ATI has stayed so tight lipped with such a xtreme beast of a GPU about to be launched!
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

I'm defintley gonna pick two of these up and if they announce the GeForce 300's specs to be out-of-this world, I'll sell em'.

These will be my first ATI cards... so excited.

I wonder how well this card overclocks with 8 + 6 pin PCIE connectors. If 5870 hits 1Ghz easy that will put it miles ahead of GTX 285 FTW/ZOMFG/BBQ SLI set up.
