Got my Intel G2 80GB last night and decided to do some quick benches to see how it compared to my WD 1TB Black. All tests were done on Windows 7 Professional x64.

This was a few months after I formatted when I upgraded my cpu/mobo/ram.

My drive: Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (bare drive) - Internal Hard Drives

Only have HD Tach, maybe I'll grab HD Tune and such later.

I wonder what % of this performance can be achieved on a SB600/SB750 chipset...

Didt you get a Intel X-25 for your new build? Or is this another computer?

    3x Intel 80G Gen2 SSD on Areca 1231DML RAID0 128KB

My OS drive, benched today after using it for a few weeks -

    And for comparison my Velociraptor 2x 150GB VelociRaptor RAID0 128KB on ICH10R temp backup/media drive -

Guess next time I should post benches from fresh and not as OS drive HD Tune read was dip-free when the drives was fresh

That single drive result is quite impresive, actualy my used X25-M G1 (about six months) drive only scores 240 points on that bench:

Well, beyond the kind of expected usage, it depends on how long the TRIM support takes to become avaliable (unfortunaly only for G2 Postville drives), and the efficiency of the G2's firmware auto garbage algorithms.

Wathever, it's time to take a clean up (DBAN pass) to my SSD drive.

Here are my 3 drives, before I pulled the 74Gb Raptor out.

Whats funny is the Raid 0 doesn't help the 4K read. Whats up with that?
I guess they're limited in some other way, some other bottleneck?

RAID0 (Stripe) has no benificial effect on file sizes smaller then the set stripe size.

Hey guys what a great thread, I just got my first SSD (Intel X25-M 80GB G2) and despite my best efforts its been difficult to get information about setup, OS optimizations, and other things like proper BIOS settings. Although I will be building my new setup on Tuesday (upgrading from current hardware to Asus Maximus III Formula, i7 860, and 4GB of DDR3) I wanted to install the drive on my current system to get some idea of its performance. Its been humbling reading through all the benchmark results, especially those SSD RAID 0 setups (the results are nothing short of amazing)! I would like to post my own benchmark results but I want to make sure I've got it working properly and to its full potential and I want to wait until I have my new setup finished.

With that all said guys I will have to reformat my HDD on Tuesday when I build up my new system and re-install Windows 7 64-bit. Will reformatting my SSD degrade performance in a noticeable way (or degrade its lifespan) and if so what should I do (mk dir mentioned a program called DBAN which I assume resets the SSD back to factory specs and fully erases everything)? I assumed my drive would support TRIM since its a G2 and I'm running Windows 7 but after reading through this thread it sounds like only these new "Postville" drives will support TRIM, is that true or will my G2 support that command under Windows 7?

Last but not least, when I installed Windows 7 a couple days ago (after getting the drive) I didn't make any partitions, I just used the entire drive. Is there any benefit to making a partition that is about 90% of the storage space (granted I'll loose out on some expensive storage space) but I read this is beneficial for some reason? In anycase guys thank you very much for all your help and support with my questions! Even though I spent the last week researching SSD drives I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information out there (it can be difficult to navigate through)!
