Nonsense.
You can use a lot more MCH Voltage than that. Most I have ever had to use is 1.48V but we had guys over at ABIT Forums using over 1.5+V with some of the really radical IP35 PRO Overclocks.
If you're having PWM temp issues pull the heatsinks off, lap 'em and do that bolt mod thing ACE-A-RUE (IIRC) has linked or for that matter, I have used mini-washers beneath the spring pins themselves. It all depends on how much bowage may be in the assembly.
A 40mm fan screws right onto that NB heatsink. It's a big one anyway. And if it's flat and flush, you shouldn't have any problems with adding a tad more MCH Voltage.
