Add another $169 Q9550 from MicroCenter to the list. Got mine week before last. Batch L846B727, pack date 6/12/09. 4.0GHz OCCT Linpack stable @ 8.5x471 on Gigabyte P45-UD3L, 1.33-1.34V LLC enabled (1.375V in bios), MCH + 0.1V, VTT + 0.1V, all power-saving/thermal-throttling features disabled, all else stock. Shooting for 4.1-4.2GHz now that my A/C is working and it's not 80+ degrees Fahrenheit in the living room, as soon as my house guests leave and I have access to the PC again. I'll post relevant screenies as soon as I can.

bigwill: I found that increasing VTT to 1.3V was the key to 4GHz stability on my Gigabyte board.

I live in Dayton, the only almost decent comp place we have here is 5oclock (5oclock.com). MicroCenter is cheaper, better selection and sometimes cheaper than newegg. I went down to get a new mobo for my p4 whs server. Ended up walking out with a new mobo for my main computer and a q9550. Put my old p5k in my server and put this new setup in my main pc.

I couldn't resist since the q9550 was $80 cheaper than anywhere online.

you can get it to 3.8 with ease do 448x8.5=3808 your memory should handle 890/2=448 which model number of memory you have post a link to newegg if they have it...I got some old xms2 corsair 2x1 running in my old ga-p35-ds3r with the E6750 just alittle oc'd to 3.4ghz nothing special which board model you got can you link that also from newegg?

i've been trying all afternoon to get something that actually boots.
I've had no problems with asus and gigb boards. This xfx crap is getting to me.
The only options I have are and the default settings along with several of the options for each:

    Cell Menu

XFX J031 Over Clock Function Menu:
FSB Clock MHz: 1333 (set to anything)
Mem Clock MHz: 800 (set to anything)
Adjust CPU Ratio: (highest 8.5, set to any increment lower)

PC Vlotage Status (Love the typo!)
Then a warning about setting the jumper (it is set to OC).

    CPU Voltage: default 0.0000v, options - .0125v - .3000v @ .0125 incr
Mem Voltage: def 1.90, option - anything to 2.5v .05incr
VTT FSB Voltage: def 1.2, options1.2-1.5v.025 incr
    NB Voltage: def 1.24, anything 1.2-1.51 .04incr
SB Core Power: def 1.5v, anything 1.5-1.6v .3incr

    Advance DRAM Config Menu:
    Full Auto or:
    Manual:
    CAS Latency
    tRCD
    fRP
    rRAS
    tRRD
    tRC
    tWR
    tWTR
    tREF
    1T/2T Mem Timing.

    Here's my board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813141016 also http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/Featur...therboard.aspx
    Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184

I believe the mem is 5-5-5-18 @ 1.9v by default.

    Thanks for the help!
Again, those are the only settings I have. No pciex settings, nothing.

This is really pissing me off, I can't touch any of the settings. Hell I don't think the q9550 is supported as the default volt setting is 0.0. I can't change anything other than the cpu voltage or it wont boot.

I might return everything and get an i7 920, intel board and some ddr3. The whole point of not going i7 was I didn't want to have to get new mem.

    @ludehawk

maybe it's time to invest into a new board if can afford 1 never dealt with a XFX mb b4 and it's setting in the bios
the memory volts should be on 1.8v at 5-5-5-18 that should set to manual not auto if your running stock speeds
but if you change the cpumulti to 448x8.5=3808 that means your memory will run at 896 not 800 so your timing
gotta be loose instead of 5-5-5-18 try 5-6-6-20 loosen it up alittle try your cpu voltage at +0.125v theses Q9550
don't alot voltage to run at 3.8...I don't think theres a vdroop in those boards like gigabyte...

I'm not looking for insane overclocking, I don't think I NEED new memory. Deff a new mobo, i've tried every mem and volt setting, no dice.

MC has the i790 in, I guess it uses the phoenix bios. It's $30 more. That's cheaper than the $40 more for the i920, $150 more for the mobo, $120 more for 6gb ddr 1600 mem. I'll do the $40 over $310 extra for the i920. I'll box up the mobo and the processor and stick it in the car and see if I really want to spend the extra tomorrow. The 2 boards that MC carries that are decent for the 775 right now are: ud3p: http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0301543

    and
    evga 790i http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0294878

They have a p5q but it's not sli.

So i'll head up there after work and return the 750i for the 790i. I've seen good results for the 790i. Unless someone can sell me on a diff 775, ddr2, raid board =)

edit: I just burst my own happy bubble. the 790i doesn't support ddr2. I guess i'll get the ud3p. I'm sure as hell wanting sli... for no reason as I only have 1 vid card and I don't game =p

This chip looks very promising. It's a low vidder with all 4 temp sensors showing a very uniform set of sample readings (did you lap your CPU/heatsink?). Please keep us posted how it turns out.

Im sorry but I think you are reading it wrong, check the ludehawk coretemp screens. He has one vid value at idle and a different one on load..
When EIST is enabled in bios, coretemp can confuse you showing both vids.
