Nah, it's actually fine. But you wanted better performance, so you have some room for improvement.

I run my RAM at 840mhz @ 7-7-7-16 1T timings 1.70V (bios) Now this runs 3d mark fine and wPrime 32 and 1024M just fine. But when I go anything higher than a 210 base clock I get lock ups and BSOD's like no tomorrow. Now I am upping the voltage as I up the base clock. I am going for 4.5Ghz at least. I have tried 1.55V Vcore (bios) and 1.55v Vtt (bios) and it will still BSOD on me when running vantage at the 215 base clock. I have tried loosening the ram timings to 8-8-8-24 1T and up their voltage to 1.72V and it is no go. I have CPU PLL at 1.880V at all times. Now I am always trying to run my Uncore at x18 and my RAM at x8, so my Uncore is running a 2:9 ratio. I have tried lowering Uncore to x16 and it was no go. Now should I be playing around with another voltage settings, or just think my chip is at it's max? I am hoping I can squeeze out a little more for some benchmarks.
I dont see that you have raised you're IOH voltage? it is quite important for the most to raise this, as higher bclk changes the behavior on the controller..

i sat a week ago, about several hours not understanding Why the bloody hell my cpu didnt want to go 220+ tried freaking ALL and ofc the IOH but just some notches.... then i just, AHH lets give it much... so 1.40 little more, than it suddenly wanted to play with me without problems so try that! raise it..

    Hi guys,

@zalbard, I really wouldn't want to lap my processor because that voids my warranty which I don't think is worth it tbh...

@Johnny, I am using Xigmatek fans on my TRUE.. actually I am back to using just one simply because I seen no difference in temps when using 1 or 2 fans..

Something definitely isn't right with these temps, I suspect maybe the base of the TRUE or the processors IHS is warped or something.. I will test out my 2nd TRUE tomorrow to see if it is any better... I hope that it is!!!

I have managed to get this processor stable @ 3.8GHz (191 x 20) with 1.248v Vcore, and 1.300v QPI, but I REALLY want 4GHz, and it doesn't seem to matter what I try for 4GHz it just refuses to run stable...

I have been talking with the tech guy who gave me this replacement chip, and I asked him if he could send me my old one back again, and he claims that he cannot find it, and that it went into one of the systems that they sell!!!

    How shady is this??

Also, when I mention to him about how I think this chip is one of the processors that didn't make the grade for their 4GHz bundles, he never said anything in reply to that, which makes me think that this is EXACTLY what has happened...

I also asked him what happens to the chips that are unable to reach 4GHz, and he just said they go into the pre built systems that they offer...

I am extremely upset about this whole situation, If only I had the mounting bracket for my TRUE before I returned my last chip, as I would have been able to test it out to see whether it was the Zalman bracket that was causing my system to only see 4GB...

Surely they have to do something about this though, I mean, I feel like I have been robbed here tbh...

I am waiting on the guy to reply to my last message in their customer support forum..

I will be buying another 920 at the beginning of next month, but I really don't know where the best place to get it would be.. I am to scared to get it from Oc incase I get another dog.. however if the guy I have been chatting with can cherry pick me a decent processor that clocks to 4GHz with fairly low voltage, then I will get the processor from them, however that doesn't help me in regards to this current chip...

I have told him that I am not happy, and that I really don't want this chip.. so I just need to wait and see what he can do for me...

Mate ... I've told you ... OcUK are chancers, they deal in muddy waters and like ... will fob you off at the slightest oppertunity.
    t
Sounds like you are at an impasse with OcUK, just now, they know they are wrong, so they should offer you one of their Cherry picked CPU's.

Most etailers are the same mate, not just OcUK and personally I have never had a problem with them.
But I agree, and as I said in an earlier post, having returned a chip that did 4ghz, I would expect one that will do 4ghz in return and if they 'offer to replace it with a new chip' then I would also expect the chip to be new.

Anyone heard about availability of the revised GA-EX58A-xxxx series?*
If we get to September and they're still not locally available, I'm going to commence killing kittens...

*searched this thread & Intel sub-forum, only found one other thread Gigabyte GA-EX58A-UDXX Release date?

@ jalyst, dunno when these new mobos are going to be released man... there doesn't appear to be much info going around online about these boards..

@M31 and Johnny, do you guys think I should be entitled to return this replacement ship because they have given me a chip that isn't anywhere near as good as the one they have given me back?

I mean, tbh they shouldn't have sent me a replacement chip full stop when my last chip was tested and was found not faulty, although, tbh it was me that kept annoying them until the guy said he would send me another chip instead of my old one, but that isnot the point, the replacement chip should have been either brand new un-touched, which this one definitely wasn't, because unused CPU's don't have pin marks on their contact points like this one did.. it had definitely been used on a motherboard, or either a chip that had been tested and was either as good as or better than the one that I returned to them...

They have given me a chip that they knew full well was an absolute dog.. temperatures that are inacceptable, and can't be overclocked anywhere near the frequencies that the previous chip could do, I think you have seen the pics I posted in this thread Johnny where I managed to get it into Windows @ 4.4Ghz, infact, I just noticed, I even verified it on CPUZ and the verification is in my sig of it running @ 4.4GHz... but this chip I have now BSOD's straight after the Windows loading bar when I try 220 x 20 or 21 x 210.. If I got that last processor under water I am pretty certain that I could have got it stable @ 4.2GHz at the very least..

But there is no way in hell this new processor will get anywhere near that, it was hard work getting 3.8GHz stable..

Also, I could have my RAM timings @ 8-7-7-21-1T with the last processor, but when I tried it with this new one I got an instant BSOD..

I think I am just going to keep on complaining about this processor until something is done about it.. I honestly feel as though I have been robbed by OcUK.. something has to be done to sort this out...

I am thinking and hoping for early Sept release. I was told they would be released at the same time as P55 and I see that is set for the 5-8th of Sept now.

    So hopefully them.

Bluntsmoker the new X58A's will be nice, no Mod needed for higher Blck and the new Smart6 Features as well

Do you think it would be worth updating to one of these boards from a current UD5 Lsd?

What is the Smart6 funcitons all about?

And do you have any idea on the prices of these new UD5's/Extremes?

Do you think they will be around the same as the current boards were at launch?

I upgrade quite a lot, so I will probably wait and see what kind of results the people that buy the mobo's first are getting, and if the results are really good then I will probably sell off my board and grab one of the new ones..

I've been out of the loop for the last few F9_ bios revisions due to the USB keyboard bug, but with that fixed in F10a which I've flashed to. I also noticed the Back to Back (B2B) CAS Delay is added a few bios revisions ago and I'm surprised no one has talked about it or tried to mess around with this setting in this thread yet. I currently don't have as much time to try since class starts on monday for me.

I did notice when set at AUTO it doesn't give me a number but two dashes -- in the current value. Does anyone know what the value is when it's set at AUTO?

Well that all depends on you, and your $$ and upgrade thoughts. I know I would if I was the kind of person who overclocked always for higher and higher scores and had the $$ to spare.

I am not sure what the prices will be, likely around the same as they are now but who knows maybe they will all drop due to P55 release? Hope so

Here is some more info and testing on this setting, different brand board though, but just thought it may interest you if you have not read it previously

Auto or -- may be disabled actually. You can look in Memset and see what value shows, it may tell you disabled then you will know.

Sorry I have not tested any of the newer BIOS's yet as I am in the middle of making out a review I am stuck with F9c until I finish up.

    Question

Hi guys, first post. YAY! I need some help getting my c0 to 4Ghz on my UD5... Many failed attempts. I'm currently at 3.8. I am no expert, this is my first build and overclock. I'm using the F7 BIOS.
    Current settings are as follows:
    BLCK: 200

    QPI: 7.2
    Uncore: 2.6
    RAM: 1200
    Vcore: 1.35
    QPI VTT: 1.335
    CPU PLL: 1.88
    QPI PLL: 1.34
    DRAM: 1.66
    LL Calibration: Enabled.

What shall I do with the IOH Core, ICH I/O, and ICH Core?

    hi Natima,
    weelcome to the forum
I've had similar issues with the GA-EX58-UD4P. I found the easier clock is to use turbo and BCLK of 190~192 B Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P that way it hits uses x21 multi and hits 3990~4032. you can alter the power options to high performnce in which case it will always run high speed, provided your cooling is ok.

My bios settings are in that link, bios is pretty similar so may help you.

Hi, and welcome to the boards mate..

With IOH core voltage I just set that up a few increments from stock, as for ICH i/o and core, I just leave those on Auto, as I don't think they have any effect on overclocking, as this is just the southbridge voltages.. though I could be completely wrong here, maybe someone else can chime in here and explain this in more detail?

Don't some C0 stepping i920's require the QPI/Vtt to be up to like 1.45v, and around 1.400v for Vcore to get 4GHz?

Have a look at the Gigabyte guide if you haven't done so already...

Yes C0s need more voltage for 4ghz dont expect them to be stable at 4ghz with anything below 1.38V (after drop) a few C0s can reach it with lower voltage but they are rare.

For myself i have come to the conclusion that it is not worth going for 4ghz, i dneed to bump my voltage from 1.248 to 1.385 to be stable.... its not worth it, the 200mhz are barly noticable but the powerconsumption is....

WOW..thanks for the guide, this is Godsend. I actually try to decide between the Gigabyte EX58 Extreme and the Asus P6T (standard version) for my Core i7 920, it would be great if someone can give me inputs on the Gigabyte Extreme since I'm kinda lazy to go over 100 pages.
Btw what memory would work best on the Extreme? I'm thinking of getting either the G.Skill 1600Mhz or OCZ Reaper 1866Mhz 9-9-9-28, I also consider the Corsair Dominator and the OCZ 1600Mhz with LED (look cool to me )

Hmmm... I didnt realise c0's needed THAT much juice. I want that magical 4Ghz barrier broken though. I have a TRUE with push-pull thermalright 1600RPM fans, inside a Silverstone Fortress with a Scythe Kama bay. All the 120mm fans are 1600rpm.
Unfortunatly my temps are already reaching 75-80 under load, so If I up the voltage it will surely be in the mid-80's. I'll play around with IOC Core, and Vcore for a bit and post my findings.

@Natima, yeah C0's require a lot more Vcore for 4GHz than the D0's..

About my current chip, I have been chatting with the tech guy @ OcUK about this processor and how I'm not at all happy about being given this as a replacement for a fairly decent chip that I had returned, and he has agreed to change this one over again for a chip that he will guarantee will run @ 4GHz with low voltages!!

He has told me to give him a few days so he can cherry pick a decent sample for me, so I am extremely delighted about this..

He told me that this would be the last time that he can swap this chip over, but if I am getting a processor that is guaranteed to do 4GHz on low voltages, then I will have no need to ask him to swap it over again!!

I wanted to ask you guys about the temps I am experiencing with this current chip.. is it possible for some chips to run hotter than others?

With my last chip, I had it running @ 4GHz with 1.264v Vcore, and .1355v QPI, and idle temps were 44c and full load they would hit 82 to 84c, but my new chip running @ 3.8GHz with 1.248v Vcore, and 1.300v QPI and it idles @ 51c, and hits 88c under load...

I don't understand why it is running so hot when it has less voltage going through it, it's running @ a lower frequency, and I am now using a TRUE instead of my old Zalman 9700NT...

I have tested the Zalman on this new chip as well just to see if it would keep it as cool as it managed to keep my last chip, but the temps went up to the low 90's!!!

@ Blunt - Good to hear mate....a bit of a 'lean' and you get what you should have in the first place.
In terms of the temps, seems odd mate...really high...wonder if the chip is a full on deuche !?
