    We've got pretty similar settings going on. I just flashed my bios to 2201 and re-entered the exact same settings/voltages that I had on my previous bios (which was 1402 btw).

    Is it safe to put the PLL at 1.6 and the FSB Term at 1.4? By the time I got my 'stable' overclock to 3.60 there were still discussions as to what PLL and FSB term voltages were safe. I'm nowhere near prime stable at 3.6 (fails in about 10 seconds) but I've been running no prob for 1 year now (games, 24/7 downloads, etc) albeit on an almost purely linux machine.

    Any suggestions where I can start poking and prodding again to get at least a stable 3.6 or maybe higher?

    I really doubt you need 1.4vNB for 450 FSB.

    Stop using 5:6 for now; use 1:1 & drop the multi one or two lower while you test for board stability.

    You need to dial in your GTLs, & find a mix of vFSB + GTLs & NB + GTL that works, or you'll never pass Large FFTs or LinX/IBT @ max RAM stress.

    If you get those figured out, you'll likely be able to get farther, & with less voltage, or at least no higher NB voltage than presently.

    I'm using 0704 BIOS still on my board. It's been running great for the last year or so. Should I bother upgrading the BIOS?

    Ah, OK. I'll leave it alone, then. I think I've only crashed maybe twice in the last year from what might have been mobo-related, though it's hard to say. I do run Prime95 from time to time and it goes for hours before I bother to shut it off (e.g. seems stable). I tend to follow Golden Rule No. 1 as well. I just wasn't sure if there was some nefarious bug lurking around that had been solved

    1680*1050

    Because on my ExpressGate (with 1406 bios) this resolution is not available.

    Hi

    i recently got myself the Q9550 with P5Q Dl, works pretty stable right now at 3,4 (8,5x400) I need 1.256 Vcore.
    My load temp is like 63 and is within my personal max of 65.
    I've mounted my Mugen propably as far as i know with a drop of artic silver.
    But i have no headroom to try a bit more. I need better ram for that anyway

    but i'm not sure if this a "normal load temp" ? or should i mount it again..?

    Test the CPU first with SMALL FFT and see if it passes, if that is stable move on to blend or large...

    I draw a small line between the cores, could be that drop is not enough, it's fine for dual core cpu's but might be insufficient for quadcores

    Resolution choices are crap on all the BIOS versions.

    My monitor's native rez is 2560x1600...ExpressGate doesn't look so hot, haha.

    You need to isolate things when OCing.

    As in, don't try to OC everything at once, or you'll not know what's unstable.

    Always run RAM at lower speeds while working on CPU.

    So try it underclocked, or 1:1, whatever is lowest. Loosen tRD (PL) to less than normal even if you want to be safe.

    For testing max CPU in your case, use the highest multi, 9x.

    You don't need to worry about GTLs on the P5Qs till 425-450 range, & you can do 9x400 for 3.6 GHz without even nearing there, which means the only real limit is your CPU; it won't be your board.

    In your case, if you are using 9x already, it's likely your CPU is nearing its max.

    If you want to test for max FSB on the motherboard, you need to run lowest RAM speed + lower than normal multi, so the only thing to worry about is mobo.

    That's how to you can fine tune GTLs.

    I find certain values will work for certain ranges.

    Like for example in my case it's around 0.80 for both FSB & NB.
    I run 1.26 vFSB + GTLS @ 0.645 = 0.8127
    NB is 1.26 + GTL @ 0.64 = 0.8064 or 1.28 + 0.64 = 0.8192.

    Even when i was doing much higher FSB & NB voltage i was getting similar values of ~ 0.80 that were stable.

    What ones works for you unfortunately may not for me.
    I've personally not had success with other people's settings...could be because i have 8 GB, i don't know.
    I've had to find my own settings, as for my P5Q-D & even for the short time i had my UD3P, no one else's GTL settings were working for me.

    This article makes me want to try it again...
    I've only put an amount in de middle and placed the heatsink.
    Maybe the procedure as described could save some degrees..
    when i have some updated temps i will post them, first find some time to do it.

    I was able to get my Q9450 upto 465FSB and from what I can see the main differences you have are:

    FSB Term is far lower than mine. I needed 1.4V
    CPU voltage of 1.375 was enough for me with LLC enabled.
    CPU GL's I needed around 0.675
    and NB 0.645 was best for me.

    The final thing is I have 4 x 2GB ram, so I couldn't get it stable over 1000 Mhz no matter what. I had to settle for a lower memory divider that puts me in the 930 range.

    Perhaps you can try settings near my ballpark.

    I got my new board last week (had major system fk up, lost board and GPUs, expensive) and it worked out of the box (and 2201 stable flash - thanks I read this board that it was okay to use) with the old settings for 3.6

    Using a single Asus 4770 for now, Ive taken one noctua off the IFX14 cpu cooler and have 2 noctuas case exhaust, 2 case intake (low and and bays) in P182, and using silent profile in Qfan bios, ~900rpm

    If I can't repair an 4870 then ill probably just get another 4770 for xfire as they run so cool and quiet, as I don't spend a lot of time gaming

    for anyone interested, the single 4770 benched ~15K 3dmark6 and ~P8000 in vantage with 3.6 cpu and max overclock in catalyst

    There is no way i can stabilize my setup.

    Q9550 + p5q dlx.

    I cant get stable at 410+ fsb.

    Always I get error in prime95 (or orthos) at cpu #0 and #1 on BLEND test or LARGE.

    Cpu can run small ffts a few hours ~3600mhz ~1.2v but no way to get stable at large ffts or blend.

    Tried almost everything , same results.

    Its the first time i cant understand if its cpu or motherboard problem.

    Better post all ya settings here mate, 410FSb is absolutely a breeze for this motherboard, from 440 on you will need to start tweaking GTL's with a quad...

    I played a little with gtl's.

    before:
    GTL Ref 0/2 :0.63
    GTL Ref 1/3 :0.63

    NB GTL : 0.62.


    After some reading here I found that I sould change these values to :

    GTL Ref 0/2 :0.69
    GTL Ref 1/3 :0.69

    NB GTL : 0.68

    Results are very good untill now, I tested 450fsb blend and it was ok.Should I let them there?

    Now I am 420x8.5 @ blend ~40mins and going

    UP NB to at least 1.2. Your FSB term is too low too, FSB term voltage is also related to the NB, try to up to 1.2 or even 1.26... and retweak again...I would leave the CPU GTL4S around 0.65 or even AUTO and tweak NB GTL

    Those are wacky volts mate are they just for this screenshot or do you intend to run them dialy ? If you can live with them no problem but I would try to go a bit lower on the FSB Term volt and if possible cool the NB actively plz...

    If ya had better rams that could to 1200Mhz it would require less volts for sure to stabilise the rig....

    its only for screenshot.. what would voltages you suggest? its hard to find a ddr2 capable of running 1200 here in my place.. my nb are actively cooled so no problem there.. thanks bro..

    Those are wacky volts mate are they just for this screenshot or do you intend to run them dialy ? If you can live with them no problem but I would try to go a bit lower on the FSB Term volt and if possible cool the NB actively plz...

    If ya had better rams that could to 1200Mhz it would require less volts for sure to stabilise the rig....
    Leeghoofd: Quick question for ya, my current setup is:
    Cpu Vtt = 1.3375
    CPU GTL = Auto
    FSB = 533
    Mem VT = 2.02
    CPU FSB Vtt = 1.4
    NB Vtt = 1.36

    My question is if you have run 8 gig ram at that high a fsb and what kind of results did you have?? Did you need to push the NB much higher and how did that affect the CPU Fsb Vtt?? Any help would be appreciated, I am currently running @ 333 strap and won't be going any higher I don't think, just want to run more Ram. Maybe push the FSB to 550 if I get bored
