Thanks, guys. Re the case getting dusty ... yep, it certainly will. This was just a test build ... ultimately the components will go into an HTPC case, and the Torture Rack will be used for testing. And, for those that don't know it, I'm a gal - so if you were scratching your head at the baby blue theme, I hope that helps some

And, after doing some more reading, I'm running Vista x64 right now, so maybe 3.6GHz 24/7 isn't all that bad. I'm very impressed with the performance I'm getting with this AMD system - love the fact that it generates far less heat than my i7 setup.

Haven't tested it yet, hope it's better than F3L.

Running F3M since it came out.
    Works fine.

Am able to go from 3 cores to 4 cores and back to 3 cores with just reboots, no removing the battery.

    Hi people,

I was originally using OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK) which ran fine at their specified settings.

Recently I bought some OCZ Platinum AMD Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P1600LVAM4GK) rated at 1.65v but they fail prime95 within 2-3 minutes unless I have the voltage at 1.70v

I am just wondering if this is safe to run at 1.70v? I've checked the ram & it's quite hot to the touch at 1.70v kinda worried the ram wont last that long with such heat.

I'm just trying to get the memory stable prior to reclocking the CPU.

Would appreciate the info, has anyone got theirs running at 1.65v? if so can you give me out stable settings? I've got mine running at 7-7-7-24 27trc 1T

Yah run it at 1.7v.....giga undervolts ram. I have the same set and have had no issues running them 1.7v. I dicussed this with tony and he agreed that 1.7 would be within spec. Trc 28 or 30 should be a little more stable. I think you will like them better if you run them at 1333+ divider 6-6-6-24-28-1T. They also will not need 1.7v unless your pushing for 1400+ if run that way.

If your system runs fine, do not update your bios.

    Bios Versions

What is the defference betweek the F3M and the F5(or F6 Bios)? I wasn't sure what it was when I upgraded to F5 to run BE 955 and I guess I'm still not sure.

Well my board is now dead because near the end of a bios update my CPU died and Gigabytes dual bios is stupid. It updates both chips at the same time so if something happens to die and you bluescreen durring the update you will lose your board. The B bios chip does not have the original bios but is updated at the same time and this creates a great amount of problems. this is the reason that these boards have died. I have found many other people that have gone through the same thing. My new MSI GD70 arives on friday so i just wanted to let you guys know what happened and warn you about the problem.

Did you flash in windows? with an OC? Sorry to hear the board died.

By the way, anyone using F6 bios yet? If so, any improvements?

If it works, don't fix it.

I have not touched bios since F3L nor tested versions since then if you get my drift

Only reason you should update beyond that is to unlock cores with F3K if thats your thing.

I would only be updating if your having a problem and there is a bug fix in a later bios adressing that problem.

UPDATING VIA WINDOWS SOFTWARE AND + OVERCLOCKED IS A BIG NO NO!

Hi guys. I have this board and a Phenom II X4 965, and the highest prime95-stable OC I can get is 3.94 GHz. Increasing it to 3.96 causes reboot after just a few minutes of prime95. Is this sudden transition from stable to unstable common, and is there anything to do about it? It would be nice to have a stable 4 GHz OC.

I also can't seem to get my NB higher than 2.6 GHz, even though I've tried raising voltages all across the board.

yep preety common, Drop temps, retry. With temps low i've had 4100+ prime stable so its not the boards.

So basically I need water cooling for that to happen. I already have a Thermalright IFX-14 and three UK3000 fans, but that doesn't help. Temps seemed reasonable to me at 30-35°C idle and 50°C load...

Also, what about the NB? I've seen several of you guys run the NB at 2.8 GHz and over. I can only get to 2.6 :/

Same goes for the NB, more cooling They start to get freaky quite fast when the temp rises. But they also vary quite a lot from cpu to cpu, just as the cores. I've reached my max prime stable NB clock ever on a 940, as an example..

Dropping core and mem clock, does that let you run it any higher? for testing purpose only

That was my point as well, I was curious when he said blue screen... I never flash with an OC nor in windows if at all possible.

Chips are not all the same, I can undervolt my 955 real nice, but can't get real high clocks like others have. If I pulled the temps down quite a bit, it would clock much higher... does that make any sense? Hense why these chips can hit high frequencies on extreme cold. Some chips need more "cool" to OC. My 940 really liked cold, it would clock nicely to 4.2ghz with less volts with chilled water (35*c load temps) then it would with standard water cooling ie: temps never above 50*c full load. Even with high V's. I have had several Phenom II's on this board and all clocked completely different, all used same components.

    Updating in windows: Yes

    Overclocked: No

Stability: not even close. because i have been crashing quite alot since 2 months after i built the system in april. I was updating the bios because i did it (or tried to) earlyer in the week to F6 but aparinly it stayed at F3K. So i tried again and near the very end of the update i got a message on the screen that said Physical Memory Failure! -> bluescreen -> No post, no display, no backpannel info, power cycling. You have used both boards chew so which would you say was better from experiance.

Regarding dual bios I think evgas is one of the best with the beta chip being on the factory loaded bios and not moving.

Yah I would never flash from windows...It sounds like you updated bios 1.....and it booted from bios 2 due to corruption "backup bios" when you flashed a second time you probably corrupted your backup as well.

Tbh from the decriptions it almost sounds like your ram is not 100% stable or one stick is ready to take a dive.

Yet to lose a board in the flash.

I hate to say it but the 790FX-UD5P ddr II board is probably the most stable board I have used to date.....oddly enough I had one detonate on air trying to cram 3000 nb out of it on air :/, my replacement board has been solid as a rock however.
