I have the extreme motherboard but I'm not water cooling the NB, only using the silent pipe cooler. I've always though my temps where a bit high.
Currently idling, it is 49c but on a hotter day that can be in the mid to high 50c's. I've seen it get over 60c when gaming. Are these temps anything to worry about?
I'm almost thinking that my SLI'ed 260's are heating up the silentpipe NB heatsink and making the NB run hotter than it should be. Is that possible and if so, would it be better in my case to run without the silentpipe heatsink. I have a HAF 932.

@Infa, I know about the option in the BIOS for enabling USB mouse and keyboard, that is the very first thing I enable when I flash my BIOS or have to load optimized defaults..
I wish that the BIOS engineers would just have these options enabled to begin with because it is really annoying having to enable them all the time..
This is my best Overclock on the i7 920, so that I can benchmark it, if I go higher than 210 I can not benchmark it only run some wPrime 32M a few times. I have to figure out a way to get it semi stable for 4.5 or 4.6.

I have a question regarding ET6. I cannot view the voltages in it. I was curious if this is because I am on too old of a bios (F5g) or if there is another reason.
Been scanning this thread, but am wanting to know if someone can quickly clear up a few final questions on the EX58-UD5:
1) Does S3 function properly?
2) Does EIST work properly?
3) Can Turbo Throttling be totally disabled (21x multi no matter what temp/load)?

Well, I finally got around to shipping my processor off.. sent it this afternoon on Special Next Day Delivery, so hopefully I won't have to wait for ages to get a replacement one shipped out to me...
It sucks not having my own PC.. and my Fiancee's AMD dual core system isn't working properly neither, so I have borrowed her fathers Laptop which is a POS!!
2.5GHz P4 with 512mb RAM, and a Geforce 4 440 64mb GPU!!!
I'm gonna get my fiancees rig up and running tomorrow, I need to replace her hard drive, as the current one is dodgy.

-yes under vista. A bit flakey under xp. No idea on win7.
-totally disable by default
C1E vid function broken after certain bclk. If you didnt use achi I would say try bios f8b first for non elpida sticks >> this. For elpida sticks try some of the latest bios.
Just answering my own question for anyone who is interested, please correct me if this sounds absurd.
I took the additional heat sink off my NB (EX58-Extreme). I noticed that under load, my NB temps maxed at 54C which is an improvement over the >60C temps I was getting with the additional heat sink on it (will have to do more testing when ambient temp is a bit higher). My assumption is that my graphics cards were heating up the heat sink and therefore making the NB hotter. I first though this might be the case based on the observation that my NB was nearly always sitting on the same temp as my top GTX 260 (up to a certain temp). This was very noticeable after playing a game and letting the system idle. If the 1st GPU was at 60C, the NB was at 60C and they would both cool down at the same rate. Currently, my NB is cooling down and is sitting on 49 where as the GPU is at 54C. If the additional heat sink was on the NB, I would assume that the NB would also be at 54C.

hi you have also answered my question about chaging from UD5 to the extreme
i would of liked to water cool the NB / additional heat sink but seems makes little or no difference
one thing i have noticed is that the two other heat sinks linked by the heat pipes do not get hot only slighty warm to the touch My Nb idles @ 45 to 48 and max about 56 to 58
seems inline with your temps
1 S3 it works fine under w7 64 but loses turbo mode when resumes
( Have read that it is a standard feature of the i7 !! may be wrong )
2 Eist No idea just turn it off
3 Turbo mode works well does not throttle

Does anyone here using a northbridge cooler or fan for this mobo?
If you are using a fan which one?

At what ambient temp? Mine idles at around 45'c with a ambient room temperature of around 17 - 18'c. Actually runs cooler than it did with the additional Extreme heat sink.
My room temperature is currently 19.9'c, and my NB is idling at 49'C. I still think the heat from the top GTX 260 is heating up the NB though, so it could be lower I guess. Still be nice to know what your ambient temp is though. My motherboard temp is 38'C and that is in a HAF with a water cooled CPU.
I'm just curious to see whether my system is running warmer than it should be.
edit: just change my above statement, sun must of been shining on the pc or something?
Idling at 48'c with 21.1'c ambient room temp, motherboard is still sitting at 38'c.

My room ambient was about 18'c, but the air flow through my case is massive given the 200mm side fan blowing onto the board, the 140 & 120mm fans blowing across it and a 120mm fan blowing onto the back of the motherboard......gotta love the Thermatake Spedo AP :P
Obviously, it gets a tad warmer when the sun is out, but not too much
Will try and measure the load temps at some point today.
Hi, new to the forums,
While i was waiting for confirmation, i read thru this thread. I am also owner of UD5 board. Downloaded the latest beta BIOS F8f.
Currently running at 3.8GHz stable (with turbo on), but anything higher giving me stability issues (BSOD 124). I already tried to bump cpu voltage to 1.3V, vtt to 1.34V and ram to 1.64, still BSODing in Prime.
On a side note, since i got my new board, i'v got one annoying issue with monitor (t240). When i power up or restart, it always search fo signal and blinking between HDMI, Analog and after it gets to digital, the screen turn on - by that time, the post is already somewhere at checking RAID array - well, unless i dont experience slow boot, which has been aparently another issue with UD5.
Thanks.
Well now I'm puzzled, I have a 230mm fan blowing on my motherboard (HAF 932), yet your idle temps are a good 10'c lower than mine? You even have a similar graphics card. Obviously the extra fans are doing their part also in your case.
What does your GPU idle at, I'm still thinking that the radiant heat comming off this 260 is what is bringing my NB temps up. I'm not even sure if it's anything to worry about as I can't seem to find out what the normal and max operating temps for it are. I have prefect stability so I guess I have nothing to worry about, but I would like to know for sure.
I can't be of too much help as my OC is relatively tame, but I often see people upping the cpu pll voltage. Maybe that is holding you back? Also make sure that your uncore multi is set to at least half of your RAM multi for stability.

I got i different mobo. Foxxconn BloodRage (very pretty) but i was sent a used board by mistake with bits missing. Anywho that was sent back for a refund, but i did had a quick play, came up with the thinking that higher uncore or ram speed causes the problems (even tho memtest seemed fine, maybe should of left it for longer). So i got another set of RAM and 920.
1st test was old 920 stock (1.2v loaded) (3850A975) and new RAM (XMS3 TR3X6G1600C7) running at rated speed. same as before, randomly lock when doing nothing. Tried a quick OC, found i could use lower VTT voltage with this RAM which seemed oddbut gave up after, the temptation of the other 920 was calling...
New 920 in (finally a good one) (3913B213) stock voltage 1.152, went all the way to 190 x 21 on stock volts (the old couldnt do 3GHz without increase) and now settled into 4.2 200 x 21 @ 1.264 vcore, 1.335 vtt, 1.2 IOH and so far no problems, should run Prime soon, but 50 passes of Linx, HyperPI and a couple days happy under its belt =
(Afternoon sun got the temps a little higher, oh well)

Hi everyone, i need some help on UD5(F8e bios) with xeon w3520 #3901
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=641343
Apparently this is stable at 4.02Ghz, but when i tried turning on intel turbo boost, system refuse to boot uptried increasing voltage to 1.35V but to no avail. any way to overcome this?
