Unless the majority of the P55 boards coming out are going to be sub $150 at launch, I just can't see the reasoning behind buying a s1156 setup when you can have s1366 and support for Tri channel memory and the upcoming Gulftown CPUs.....

. Dual channel is like going backwards, because what's the use of DDR3 tri-channel after all.

And the upcoming Gulftown thingy, I hope it'll happen per what's currently on our expectation.

yes, here are 32nm Quads, but based at Lynfields i7 700 and 800...not top highend to time.

Why would anyone go with a lesser product for more money? The 2.66Ghz i5 750 is going to cost about $200 when released, have no HT and support for only dual channel memory. The 2.8Ghz i7 860 is going to cost about $285 at launch it does support HT but only dual channel memory.

And thats the point, boards are already cheaper, even though they are only on preorder, cheapest S1336 board here is ~140€, cheapest S1156 is 90€ and most S1156 boards are below the 150€ mark.


I expect them to drop another 10-20€ after they are fully available. You won't see any more drops on the S1336 boards, cause the cheapest borads already are at its lowest ( eg. some have only 4 dimm slots, only 6 sata ports etc.)

EOL dont means you can't buy it any more, its just means intel don't takes any new orders of it anymore. Old orders befor EOL date still will be served and it takes quite some time till all the inventory in the channle is celared.

Yeah but you'll see crazy price gouging like with the Q6600.

damn, i would realy like it if they did the little trick they pulled with the cley 347 ( 65nm ).
just immagine, 32nm version of the E84-8600. that would rule several bechmarks ( or atleast superpi 1m )(until i7 gets higher clocks).


i realy dont like the multiple socket idea. Makes me think of amd in the 754,939,940 and am2 days.

An this is for the exact same 65nm tech you could buy 2+ years ago. The lowest price I remember seeing on Newegg was ~$160.
