What's funny is that if they do keep the i7 920 around, how do they expect to sell any of the i5/i7 7/8XX CPUs? The i7 920 is only $200 at MicroCenter and the X58 boards have fallen nicely in price. And even if you don't have a MC near you, you can still get the i7 920 for about $250-$280 at just about any online shop.
Why would anyone go with a lesser product for more money? The 2.66Ghz i5 750 is going to cost about $200 when released, have no HT and support for only dual channel memory. The 2.8Ghz i7 860 is going to cost about $285 at launch it does support HT but only dual channel memory.
Unless the majority of the P55 boards coming out are going to be sub $150 at launch, I just can't see the reasoning behind buying a s1156 setup when you can have s1366 and support for Tri channel memory and the upcoming Gulftown CPUs.....![]()
