    GT300 to launch in Q4 2009

    http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/14810/1/
if you are too lazy to click on the link:
Once more we have confirmed that the chip that we call GT300 is on schedule to launch in 2009. The way it looks now the chip should be launching roughly in November timeframe and of course it will be a high end product.

Nvidia has put in a lot of effort in order to beat ATI and keep the performance leadership, as this is something it cannot afford to lose. The real volume shipment of Nvidia’s new DirectX 11, 40nm high end part should be expected in early Q1 2010 but since $599+ products are not selling in millions of units, Nvidia should be able to ship sufficient cards to consumers.

Even if something goes wrong, Nvidia will still show its hardware in late Q4 2009 just as they did with Geforce GTX 295 dual chip and ship it in early Q1 2010, as the strategy worked last time.

GT300 hasnt even had its final tape-out yet, so late q409 will be the best they could make, if everything goes perfect from now on. but im shure if they launch in 09 it will be a plaine paper launch. id bet on q110 for the real launch, much too late for amds evergreen...

Assuming it's actually worth showing then a paper/low-availability launch is expected. But launching one expensive out-of-stock part isn't going to help them much if the rumours of AMD's full 40nm lineup are true.

    It's not rumours.
And it will be a paper launch of GT300, pretty sure, so worthless tbh. Just for some fans to cheer...

    is this really gt300?
    almost sounds like they renamed a GT200 40nm shrink gt300 :P
i wonder if they really said dx11 or if fudzilla assumed that... it might be 10.1 and GT200 based and not GT300...
not the first time nvidia did this when the next gen was delayed...

A paper launch before the holiday season can't be a smart move. They'll lose sales from current GPUs as people will holdout until the new year for the GT300. I'd venture to say that Christmas-time has to be a big sales period for Nvidia/ATI. Eh, what do I know. I'm just a fool who keeps buying this crap.

A GT300 holdout is better for them than somebody who takes the AMD plunge.

Yeah I also go the impression that ATI would be ready way before offical Windows 7 launch, which is in October.

I hope they bring 2gb as the standard for highend cards. That way we can raise the bar for next-generation game's highest settings... and along with DX11 of course.

Rumor last I heard was the dual gpu card is to be released in November ( eg R770 end of June, R700 in August )

Unless these new ATI cards blow the socks off the current offerings, I'll probably wait out the GT300 models.

As far as seeing 2GB reference, that is tough to say. As much as I'd like to see this happen, it might be to soon. Anyways the efficiency improvements of DX11 will reduce memory usage if anything so the only benefit of more memory would be higher resolution textures and at the end of the day developers will code for what is common meaning 512-1GB cards of today ( save for a few rare cases like GTA4, nothing realistically will use more than 1GB as it stands ; mods don't count ) I'm sure they'll be sporting some really fast GDDR5 at the very least but 2GB might be a tad wishful at this point.

Oh, Fud. But at least we've heard about this GT300 for now,. nVidia is gone dead silent about this anyway.

It's interesting that NVIDIA isn't trying to talk up their product more. Either they've really got something up their sleeve, or they're not sure they can beat ATI this round. Whether that's due to a performance or product lead-time standpoint is anyone's guess.

There's nothing to talk up. 40nm DX10.1 is late and DX11 is even more late.

be pretty lame if it was another g80

i mean... what would we call the next "g80" revolution? the gt300?

i want some AMD revolutions like instead of g80 revolution we could say

the "OVER 9000" revolution (corresponding thousand number to product series)

    from a price-performance perspective but

it wasn't a g80 in terms of next generation performance (stellar but not a g80 imo)

Idk I want something that absolutely leaves no doubt that it is the future and it makes buying any older gen cards seem stupid because the new cards absolutely rape them [instead of the average 20% increase over the previous generation] g80 was like what 50% at least in like everything?
