sniipe amazing stuff as always.
I would like to know, about your wiring. What did you do, just replaced the stock cable for a bunch of cables with the same colour and soldered them to the PSU??

It looks absoloutely amazing Ian, I love it. Very unique, I want to copy it now :P
It's like, why didn't I think of that.![]()
one other thing, SNiiPE. Before installing that granite you said is going to be part of the build, get it checked with a geiger counter. Some granite contains elements that can give off radon gas, which is a very serious health risk and which can cause errors in non-radiation-hardened chips.
Sniipe, I have to hand it to you. You got the presentation down, the creativity and the attention to detail to elevate your builds above most that I've seen. It's really inspiring. Love the music in that video.. very theatrical and really brings the project to life.
I'm working on a project right now that I hope I'll be able to instill some of the same creativity in. I've always thought of a computer as an organic, living thing and not just a hunk of metal, so I've always tried to portray it as such. You're doing a good job of that. Well done, my man.

Each time I think there's no way this could get any better, Ian, you find a new way to prove me wrong and I couldn't be HAPPIER about it!
SD-
In post 271, you show a pic of the case basically broken down to some of its barest parts.
After looking at some close up pictures of the V2010 and V2110 cases (I don't have either one handy to check in person), it appears that certain parts are fastened together with rivets.
How did you get these apart and/or the rivets taken out? And given the rivets, how do you get it back together again in the end?
Anyways, just curious for my own general knowledge and modding purposes. I was taking a close look at a V2010 last night as a possible WC home, but there are parts on it I'd want to take out or change around and they appear to be areas riveted together.
Keep up the great work. Thanks!
My dad saw this and added the lower res versionI think he is putting up an MP4 for those with WMP issues. EDIT: Mp4 file is up under www.dennishelmar.com/video2
all of the blue wire is done on extensions or modular connectors. I opened up the PSU to solder wires in there and said to myself "there is no way in hell I am ripping apart this $300 PSU with the difficult places these solderpoints are in."
here here, I dont mind if anyone copiesI did this so people would have more options with their case's wiring
hmm yes, radon is no good ;\ I will look into this
Cheers Xion X2, I am glad my work can have an effect and inspire others, it is one of the best parts of doing modding like this
hehe, thats what this build is about, shot putting peoples expectations over the fence![]()
The case is all help together with 1/8" pop rivets. To remove them you use a 1/8" drill bit and just drill at the center of the rivet, and to put new ones in after all you need is a handheld rivet gun (any hardware store) and the proper rivets (some are countersunk some are standard - both can be found at mcmaster-carr)
cheers, and thankyou for the compliments
thankyou p0PeI will not be doing the GFX wires the same way, in every build there is improvement to be had in hindsight, I guess that just leaves the door open for next time

Dude, you really have my deepest respect! This is FANTASY!!!!!Keep it going

Thank you greatly warmaster, things keep turning out better than i could have even imagined, lets just hope I don't hit any snags

Sweet merciful God... and it survived? Those parts are either Jesus or Juggernaut.
What a video, Ian! I am extremely impressed.

I might have to try my hand at solid-color cabling, or at least individual sleeving, next time I rip my rig apart![]()

Granite? Its certainly an interesting idea, but you may need a forklift to move it once its done... :P
This is going to look incredible with all the lights and things shining off that surface though.... mmmm. Once again, awesome work, awesome photos! And has your Hedgehog got a name? (Please, please don't have called him sonic.)
granite pieces only weigh 7lbsand yes the deadline is breathing down my neck big time...
Well, with the Granite, you can now lap your CPU inside the case.![]()

If your annoyed by sigs telling you to put things in your sig, then put this in your sig
Bribery won't work on me...just say NO to AT!!!
Looking really good SD, that case is going to be a bit hefty though. I hope you won't have to carry it far when you get to the lan. Good luck on it. Keep the pics coming too. No pressure![]()

SD, new question going back a few pages.
Those SLI/Crossfire fittings between the vid cards: are those the Danger Den ones with a B P fatboy barb outlet?
Thanks.
I've been gone all weekend so this was really nice to come back to and see. as everyone else already said - nice work.
the wiring execution is one of those things where you look at it and think "well, that makes sense." like it was expected to be the next evolution in wiring, we were just waiting for someone to think of itreally nice execution on that although I can only imagine how tedious it really was to do all of that. I can't see what else you are going to include in this build, it certainly is an exciting build log to follow!

Ian: Nice photography as always!!! Will your daddy adopt us all? I adore you for having this superhuge softbox thing - very cool to have I believe
Cable solution:
Sorry to say, but there are always people who did something before
A German (...) had the same solution with ATX to plate in seperate holes in September 2008. Only difference though: he sleeved it and just had three cables visible. Very neat:
Of course he is not a photographer ... just a "solder-man"Would have been cool if you would have the part sleeved. But that's just personal taste.
More about it if you like to see what others do Ian: http://www.sysprofile.de/id66864
Interesting to see it again here in the USA by you![]()
Lol! WIN, althought it might make it kinda dirty inside
haha, I am definitely going to be able to cary it, hopefully the case comes back from paint today, if not then it will be back tomorrow morning 7am
yes you got it right
Thankyou Risevery tedious indeed
While I understand that you like sleeve wires nils (), I refuse to call that solution pictured the same as mine just because he has 3 holes that go through the motherboard tray.
The thing is, if you knew the incredibly exact lengths I had to cut each wire to, how many wire lengths I went through to get each end insulation stripped off just right, how many individual pins I crimped to the wires before I got them exactly the way I wanted and how long it took me to hand measure, place and drill all 24 holes for the wires - then you too would understand why I don't consider it the same.
3 holes and sleeving the wires would have taken me about 30 minutes to complete, this took me more than a week of practice and refinement to get right.
The wright brother's made the first plane that flew a few hundred yards before crashing, does that meant they get credit for making the first plane to circumnavigate the globe?
In other news!
I tapped the res a few days ago, leak tested and everything was great, last night I set up the res in loop with the waterblocks and found that the flow was decreased too much by the EK supreme for the res waterfall effect to work properly. so I talked to Hank today and I got another ddc3.2 and ek-ddc x-top and this rig will be going dual pump!![]()

Thanks SD
Another question for you if you don't mind (I sound like Colombo...).
How much clearance is there between the top edge of the motherboard when mounted in that chassis and the top of the case? Like how many mm distance is it between the two?
I'm asking to get an idea of whether or not there is space there to mount a decent sized rad up there or not, if need be, in a V2010B which is the essentially the same case as yours.
TIA!
Wow, that 24 pin looks awesome! Very original and sounds like it took a ton of effort. Very impressive!!!
