I think we should do something like this with all of these sammys (only this guy did it over a year ago and was smart about it and went with Q6600s).

You'd have to volt-mod the fans for sure, 1U case fans are obnoxiously loud.

Guys.. that's a great opportunity. However I don't see intercontinental shipping on those, so here is what we could do:

1. Try and find someone who would be willing to run those all together. They are around 100W each so that's 1KW/h for the whole. I'm thinking of bob because he has the lowest elec costs (0,05$ right?)
2. Find enough people to buy those. Like everyone interested could buy one if the ending price is reasonable (maybe we set a max of 1000$?).
3. One person runs those as a farm/cluster, either under the names of those that bought them OR as "Team XS Sammy Cluster" <--

Those should do approx 60-70k WCG/d put together.

I would definitely put 100 bucks up for that project.

I have the lowest costs and the lowest quality cruel aunt .. on topic: that thing is a steal.. even the PSU or the chassis alone would be a deal..if somehow that thingie could arrive here I can run it without any hassle with the name you want.. IIRC my costs are something like 0.0015 /kwh..I´ve written it here long time ago but can´t recall atm..

Correct me if I'm wrong but that should come out to 50-70k ppd. For a $850 system that's untouchable!

Edit: Oh and this would be sick- do it with OC i7 and GTX 260's...

To bad to do it for just 3 towers would cost $91,000 ($500 per i7-920 + Board and $170 per 260) if I did my math right. Plus then all the engineering that goes into actually building it and Power supply?

So 4,000,000 GFLOPS for $900,000 comes out to $0.225/GFLOP, which I don't see happening until 2014 or something seeing as with current hardware we're looking at at least $20/GFLOP for CPUs, which are the only viable data crunching platform atm with no one programming on GPUs as much.

My sossaman should be on it's way so I am wondering if anyone is using their's as a file server? I have one of my quads setup with WHS and a HDD died the other day and I lost all my data.

So can I put some sort of RAID card in it to avoid losing my data or should I just use a cruncher?

lol I'm not sure about file.....wait a minute....

sossa #1 is WCG 95% and a file server. actually works great.
sossa #2 is counter-strike:source server (20 users) for my son during the day and WGC at night

Yes, a normal 32 pci sata card will work fine in the PCI-X slot..
And yes, it's on the way..

Nope, it's a PCI-X..works as 33 or 66..
I have an old Promise IDE controller card in mine with 2-120 gig IDE drives on it and works perfect..

I think I'll put a PERC 5i in there. PCI-E x8 slot and card should be a good mix and I dont need the GPU so it can have a PCI or onboard.
