    Acard 9010 4x4GB R0 on Areca 1680ix-12 benches

    Good evening,

Ok - got it working but not that great - acard support said I had to drop back to sata1 via jumpers on the acards - well it works but at sata1 speeds
Even so with the the 1680's 2GB cache and the good small IOP performance of the acards the numbers aren't as bad as I expected.

Test system is i7 965 on Gigabyte extreme mobo, 3x1GB G. Skill 2000/C9, 2xGTX295 Quad SLI (koolance blocks), cpu and vc's water cooled via 2xBoreas all in series. Boot drive via mtron 16GB and non-1690 controller (on the mobo), Acard array standalone on the 1680 (exception - the acards are the boot array on 1680for PCMark05)

    Clocks - cpu @ 4.48 (35x128) ht off, memory @ 1792 (99924), pcie @101

    Memory used in the Acard's - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 Dual Channel Kit Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBNT - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231207

Previous benches on ich10r are at - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=229410

Seems to be significantly slower than onboard in every benchmark that doesn't measure the cache speed... Read access times doubled... Why are you using the Areca versus ICH? The ACARD is like the definition of a device that deserves to have a more direct connection. The CPUs on currect RAID cards can not keep up with the amount of IOs the Acard is spitting out.

Yes, but I think the fact that the acards can only run at sata I speed is slowing things down alot. I will contact areca and see what I can find out.

Acard does not give above 150MB/s per port anyways so Sata 2 should not do anything. I think it is Sata 1 internally or something like that.

FEAR has gotten much better than what I show here with his areca 1261 card - AS SSD latency read - .07ms, write .056ms - CORRECTION - comparable!

Yeh but your ICH10R is still faster in everything but ISO and not by much.
Your 'Program' numbers are about double!

Also the cache will still have a bit of a mis-leading affect in AS SSD also.

We need to see some more 12xx numbers to be certain but at least for the acards you may be right. Hopefully in the thread you started.

Mayby a bit odd but how many ACARD units do you have? 2 or 4?

Good evening Don, 2 acards set up as 4 drives, each with its own sata connection.
Each with 4GB in my case for a total of 16GB, each acard can be populated with up to 64GB (8 sticks of 8GB each - very expensive!).

I know, it is hell of expensive, I have one unit of that HDD of my own
I had my first shock just after first installation. I used external powersupplay rated 25W cont. but just after 5 minutes - bang and that PSU was dead.
Mayby because I used 8 stick of Crucial Ballistix Tracers (you know, those with leds - they look really nice inside).
It did guite well with my totally messed XP on ICH10

What I have noticed that the mem inside gets really hot Have not measured voltages with MM yet, but I think I should.

I have noticed them getting very warm but not as hot as other components - for example some of the iop341 raid cards w/o a fan get hotter.
