hey guys, im new here. Im having a problem with my new system. Ill just quickly post up my system:

    W3520 Oc'd to 4ghz at 1.25v
    Gigabyte UD5
    MSI 275GTX
    Patriot ddr3 6gb 1600
    WD 1tb caviar black
    Win7 RC

The problem I am having is that it randomly freezes in windows, while idling. I left my comp for 10 mins, came back and it froze. It also happened while i was playing COD4 online, it just randomly rebooted. However im not sure if its a win7 problem, or a problem with my overclock. The thing is, i ran IntelBurnTest for 5 loops and it came out stable! I also ran Prime95 for 30mins (i know i should run it for a few hours) and it was still fine.

So im not sure why leaving my comp idling or playing COD4 online would cause my comp to freeze/reboot, while stressing my CPU at 100% load was fine with no issues at all.

W3520 is running rock solid @4GHZ 1.15v with no problems here .

It could be your RAM too, what kind of Dvider/timin and vdimm are you using. Did you run any Prime-Belnd, or memtest too?

wow 1.15v!, wat temps are u getting? Im actually a noob at OC'ing, so dont know all these terms etc. but my ram is at 1530mhz at 8-8-8-24 with 1.64v, if that is what you are asking?

No i havent ran memtest yet. ATM im running prime-blend test, 2hours into it, and still going strong.

When your system freezes most off the time to low vcore, dram voltage or Qpi/dram core volt.
The first two looks good so how much is your Qpi/Dram Core Volt.
What cooling you using.. your temps!
Your power supply(psu)..i think must be strong enough.
Is your C-State Tech Enabled? this can make it unstable when using higher overclocks -> So Disabled it!
and so on..so we need all your settings to help you!

And guys i still need results from a W3520 for my list who give it a try

My Qpi/dram is at 1.35, is that too high? Im on air cooling, using a TRUE with 2 x scythe ultra kaze 2000rpm fans in push /pull setup. idle i get around 38-40c, and load with prime in get 77-80c max. My PSU is a 850w toughpower, so this should be adequate power for my OC?

These are some of the stuff i have disabled / enabled in my bios

Nice chip jooney. 4.5 with 1.27 vcore load and 1.27 Vtt, probably the best chip I have seen. Makes we want a Xeon.

Yes measured with MM it was 1,265-1,266 VCore and E-LEET shows 0,025 VTT to much so it is measured around 1,25

I needed two sticks of RAM in another computer, but
Tri channel tested up to 251.21, no difference so I have no reason to think 3 sticks would limit my max OC.

I was on a 3Dmark06 run when I ran out of DICE, so no new 3D screens.
I got these 3D/2D screens a couple weeks ago when I was stuck at 251x21 .

OMG, this is an awesome clock!! 4.5Ghz with such low volts and best of all, it's stable for 24/7.

Nice clocks and temps jooney.. I hope I can get good temps like that with the Heat killer that is about to come... with a lower oc, of course, that's outrageous!

Is the xeon's cpu vtt 1.2V at stock?

Guys, need some advice here. I thing I got a "not so good" 920 C0/C1.

My max stable OC is this:

    C1E: OFF
    HT Tech: ON
    CPU cores: ALL

    HT: Off
    Intel Speedstep Tech: OFF
    Multi: 21x
    Bclk: 200
    QPI-Links: Full
    Uncore: 3200
    QPI: 3600
    DRAM Speed: 1600 @ 9-8-8-22 1.60v

    Vcore: +0.180 (1.456v @ CPUz)
VTT: 1.56v (1.504v after drop according to bios)
    PLL: 1.80
    VNB: 1.150v
    SB: 1.50v
    QPI/PCIE PLL: 1.190v

I this VTT ok for 24/7? With less then this system crashes on Linx. For 4GHz (20x200), I need the same settings, just with a little less vcore.

For 19x210 I also need a lot of VTT. I know it's not a D0, but is it safe using this on an air cooler?

I think 1.504 VTT is too high and not safe for 24/7

=S How much would be safe for 24/7 then? Up to 1.45v?

Yes I would say your max safe 1.45v, I saw some people using 1.45v VTT/QPI fine but myself I won't go above 1.40v

Also according to Intel the max safe is 1.35v

The best that I can do for my chip is 3.60 GHz at 1.20 V with 81C peak temps by doing BCLK 180 and Multi 20x on air cooling Xigmatek HDT-1284EE.

    HardOCP Forum - Overclocking Air: Intel i7 920, Asus P6T, G.Skill DDR3-1600 C8, Xigmatek HDT-1284E

I can't push BCLK to 185+ without going above 1.25 V and that is my voltage thermal maximum limit since it hits a peak of 94 C at this voltage doing Prime95 Blend test, and this peak is 6 C to 100 C CPU temperature max. I tried CPU and QPI voltage increase to 1.275V, 1.30V, and 1.35 V temporarily but the system freezes at any BLCK from 185-200 within minutes. I can't push the voltage higher since my air can't handle the thermals above CPU 1.25 V. My system is stable at BCLK 180 with 1.20 V so I use this lower voltage to keep my thermals down to ~80C peak during stress testing.

I can't get to 3.78 GHz by Multi 21x and BCLK 180 since even when Turbo is disabled and Multi is set manually to 21x the Turbo kicks in to 22x Multi and blue screening my system randomly.

I'm stuck at 20x highest Multi and 19x is useless since I can't push BCLK higher than 180. I've tried slower memory ratios, CPU PLL bump from 1.80 V to 1.90 V, DRAM 1.60 V to 1.64 V, nothing works except as I'm guessing more CPU voltage and I can't go higher than 1.25 V on this cooling.
