I am running the latest one, 1302.

Yes, the ram may be a problem, extreme system PI as I said have been very unstable since I started OCing over 3.2ghz, but the noraml PI is working every time. At the settings I were running last night also extremesystems PI were very stable.

When I tried to lower the volt on the NB it hung the comp after just a few mins of Lotro. So it looks to me I cannot get the comp to run lower volt on NB. If its the ram that is the problem comp should not hang after lowering NB volt right?

yes and no the MCH will affect the ram stability when lowering the volts generally you will get hard locks when stressing the rig..temps and volts are huge factor here..take your PL from 7 to 8 or 9 to reduce NB stress.
I think your best options are to try and add a fan on the NB , test your dimms with memtest both overclocked and stock...50-55c load seems to be where ppl start to see instability on the NB....if it was stable but its now unstable ans there has been no change it has to be heat or bad ram if the cpu is stable..you could also check carefully around the dimm slot area for swollen/fat capacitors, if you see any its RMA time for your board.

The Dominators work very well on this board

    Memtest >>>> http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.5.iso.zip
burn the ISO to cd and boot from your CD/DVD drive let it run for 3 passes, errors can be found after 1 or 2 passes

Hi, what memory do you recommend for the Maximus Formula with Rampage Formula BIOS Conversion?

    I'm currently running 2x OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition 4GB Dual Channel memory kits
I am running it at a Performance Level of 8 with a 1:1 FSB of 400Mhz and DDR2-800

But if the memory could do CAS 3 at DDR2-800 then I could hopefully lower the "Performance Level" on my Rampage Formula to 6 I think...
Or if it could even do CAS 4 at DDR2-1000 then I should be able to reach "Performance Level" of 5

So I am looking for memory capable of that, these two kits have good prices in Sweden, I will like now run 2 kits for 8GB total...
    OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 4GB Edition
    OCZ DDR2 PC2-9200 Reaper HPC 4GB Edition

Would you recommend these or any other for this mobo?

EDIT; The OCZ PC2-9600 Low-Voltage Blade Series, OCZ2B1200LV4GK looks absolutely awsome, very good price too, anyone with experience with these on MF or RF and lower timings?

What kind of Voltage settings did you use for that?
I cant seem to get past 3.8GHZ on my x3220 "B3" stepping.

So far this is my p95 stable settings.

From my experience OCZ do not play well with this board, you need to relax the timing a lot to get things stable on high FSB so the bandwidth takes a hit
The 9200 kits is pretty good on P45 and if your set on OCZ then thats the kit I would grab
Older vers of Corsair Dominators would be a better choice if you can find them vers 1.1 or 1.2 were the best and worked very well with the board.

I'm trying to reach 600FSB with my E8500 and Zucker's settings aren't cutting it. I'm guessing VTT and GTL REF are key, should I need more than 1.35VTT real? Should CPU GTL be set to 0.63x as per specs or should I try higher? NB GTL? Zucker only needed 1.58 VMCH but I've seen others go as high as 1.71 VMCH. Lots of factors here, just looking for some settings for other people that have reached the plateau to give me an idea of where to get started. I know I probably won't be able to use someone else's setting exactly but it'd be a launching point.

Starting with my new bad vid Q9550 :P

    Hey guys,

I just received my Q9550 E0, after getting my E8400 to 4.55Ghz on 1.48v with all of your help I am back to report how this oc is going.

So far voltage isnt great at all, 1.30 volt idle and 1.256v stressed on stock speed. (worst ever? lol)

Strange enough this chip does 425FSB without any other changes then disabling static read control and both spread spectrum settings.

Any opinions on how far I will get? (I have a s-1283 aircooler with very old, recycled paste so will get better temps later)

I should be able to cool to +- 1.4v.

    Update on crappy Q9550 E0

Ok, seems the chip aint 2 bad, yesterday I got it to 444x8.5 on just about the same voltage; 1.26v stressed/1.320v idle. I cant go higher because the other dividers (fsb/mem) suck at overclocking.
In my experience the only good ones r 333 and 400 strap, the other suck for me, dont no why.
(for example: If I run my mem under spec or wayyyy under spec its not stable on 3.9Ghz even tho 3.8 is stable as a rock... Exact same problem as with my E8400.)

My guestion now is; whats the fastest ram going in the maximus formula? I have DDR2-8500 dominators now but I need about 1200Mhz I think to get 500FSB on the same strap.

But the maximus is rated for 1066Mhz ram, can it handle 1200Mhz? which is best/ most compatible with the maximus?

    Thanks in advance

Is OCZ Blade Low-Voltage OCZ2B1150LV4GK good for maximus formula? Or will it stress the mem controller to much? (Its rated 1.85volt)

I would think those Dominators are good. I think there other better to answer this though (Grnfinger). I'm thinking I have heard the 45NM Chips (Q9550) don't play well over 425 or 450 on this board. Might want to think about a different MB.

Is that FSB wall only with quads? Cuz my E8400 runs fine on 533*8 (4.55Ghz) on 1:1 divider
I thought 500 would be easy as the highest boot for the E8400 was 550FSB or sumtin...

I'm not getting a new mobo for S775, then ill get a 1156 and a Corei5 and get it to 4.5+ghz xD

    EDIT:VID is bad after all

    Can anyone solve my problem?

I cant get passed 455FSB stable under 1.280 vcore stressed.

GTL settings on my mobo r kinda lame, cuz Maximus Formula only has 4 options for cpugtl: (I have bios 0701 from rampage formula, should I get the latest 1?)
0.62x (no POST), 0.63x (no POST), 0.65x (no Boot), 0.67x (OK)
And for the NB 8 options, but all settings lower then 0.63x is unstable en doesnt let windows boot. (only remaining setting is 0.67x)

This is what's breaking my head:
    I can boot and stress mildly (IBT 512mb) @ 470FSB with;
cpuv;1.375 / 1.280 (all variations are less stable)
pl:1.52 bios, reads 1.60 (all variations are less stable)
nbv;1.61 ( (lower volts here is less stable, higher no effect))
FSBTv;1.36 / 1.26 (1.36/1.38 seems best here, higher, lower bad effect)
    nbgtl;0.63 cpugtl;0.67 (c above)
Common performance level:10/9 (444FSB can go on 7 stable)
940Mhz +5-5-5-18 2.1v!! <-- This is what I do not understand, why does my RAM need so much volts? Is the NB to stressed?

    940Mhz +5-5-5-15 2.1v <--This is lower then spec = no boot windows

Ram spec: 1066+5-5-5-15/2.1v of 1066+5-5-5-18/1.8v standaard

Or IS the the absolut limit? Temps are good, NB 40 stressed, CPU about 60.

btw, Ik have Corsair XMS2 ram. (and raising volts didnt help anymore after 2.1)

    Got it.

It was the Load Line Calibration, that needed to be enabled this time. Weird cuz on 444FSB it had to be on auto and on 455FSB it had to be disabled.

So now I have 470FSB looking stable, only it gets 2 hot so I cant stress harder (71degrees with IBT max stress 1x, 69degrees when 10x512mb IBT stress)

I made it with these settings:
    8.5x477FSB
    Strap:AUTO
    DDR2-941MHZ 5-5-5-18 @ 2.0v
    static read control: disabled
    AI Clock Twister:auto
    AI Transaction Booster:auto
CPU:1.350v bios / 1.336 cpuz load and idle(still lowering, not done finetuning)
    PLL:1.52v bios / 1.600 real
    NB:1.61v bios / 1.616 real
    FSBT:1.38v bios / 1.280 real
both GTL and Skew settings are set to auto.

EDIT:OCCT large data set still gives error after 30 min I did set the ram back to spec: 5-5-5-15@2.1v. CPUv had to e increased to 1.368 as well....

    - Q9550 E0 L846B824 VID 1.2874 MF to RF 0902-

Now Im really close to 100% stable
OCCT ran for an hour larga data set and IBT ran max as always. My quess about the ram was right, didnt change much in the end:

    Strap:AUTO
    DDR2-940 MHZ 5-5-5-18 @ 1.8 v bios / 1.878 real
    static read control: disabled
AI Clock Twister:auto (tweaking this after max FSB is found)
    AI Transaction Booster:auto
CPU:1.368v bios / 1.352 cpuz load and idle
    PLL:1.52v bios / 1.600 real
    NB:1.61v bios / 1.616 real
    FSBT:1.38v bios / 1.280 real
both GTL and Skew settings are set to auto.
(maybe now I can finetune these and get lower vcore)

OCCT is running for 100 minutes now, I guess its time to go higher FSB xD

    Another Update

Thanks for the settings grnfinger! (only saw your mess today so Ill test it this evening and report back this evening)

Just wanted to say that I really love xtremesystems, especially the forums, you guys know so much I never stop learning and I really appreciate the effort+info!

Best achieved yesterday was 490*8.5 bootable and light stressable, Intel Burn Test 5x 512m = 40%, starting to get there...

Yesterday I got error in OCCT all of a sudden, but I got it stable for 6+ Hours now:
    changed:
    strap:333 and CPUSkew:delay 100pico and NBskew:normal

    Hello boys!!!

Well I got a problem with my OC.

    My rig:

    E8400
    Maximus Formula x38 (BIOS 1302)
    2x2GB G.Skill Pi Edition 1000Mhz
    XFX8800GTS (G92)
    PSU Powercooler 850W

Cooling system: Swiftech Apex ultra h2o + MCW60

My problem is that I can´t get a stable OC, I think that my problem is the ram. Because I run a Orthos thread for more than 3 hours and was rock solid (Just stress the CPU, NO RAM).

    The CPU 8400 is now at 3.6Ghz with 1.296 - 1.304 Vcore in CPU-Z.
Im running my system a 1:1 and my FSB is 400MHZ.
My temp are ok in full load I get 50ēc.
The thing is wen I stress the ram I get a blue screan and a reboot, olso wen I play a game I get a blue screen.
    What Im doing wrong?
    The Vdimm is 2.08
