Ok both my CPU's have dud cores, you can update the list on the first page C-Buzz.

CACYC AC 0919EPMW - Fail (Motherboard won't boot up when ACC enabled)

CACYC AC 0924EPMW - Fail (Motherboard won't boot up when ACC enabled)

I'm going to order another two chips and just hope they unlock. Knowing my luck I'll never get a chip that unlocks

So anyone know where to get AP stepping X2's in the UK? Or do we just have to rely on the luck of the draw? I'd like to build an HTPC soon and wouldn't mind being able to unlock cores!

Bummer mate I woudln't order unknown steppings, because chances are you'll get exactly the same steppings. Ring around a few places before you order to make sure you get a good stepping

I got mine from scan the same as another guy on here that had 2 working chips so its still luck of the draw as i have emailed plenty of shops with no answer.

Hi mate I replied to your PM, yeh I got my 0924EPMW from scan today.

I have also tried phoning places, such as Tekheads, etc, and no-one is willing to go to the warehouse and pick out a particular stepping for me (cant blame them really)

I'm doing a 180 on what I said about ordering 2 more, I'm going to a shop next time so I can see what I'm buying.

I only want a 550be unlocked to 4 cores for WCG to crunch and help out XS. Parts in the UK are expensive and I cant afford an I7, so a budget 550be unlocked is perfect for me.

Now I'm stuck with two 550's that overclock pretty well but I want to sell them because they wont unlock Expect a post in the FS section pretty soon

P.S. this Biostar TA790GX XE is a fantastic motherboard for the price. It's packed full of features and overclocks very well. I have it hooked up to my 26" HDTV via HDMI @ 1920x1080 and it even plays sound through the same HDMI lead! It has onboard ATi graphics which you can overclock, a whole host of tweaking setting in the BIOS. The utilities CD that it comes with has a great load of software for overclocking.

All in all a 10 out of 10 from me, highly recommend this motherboard to anyone.

I just got my DFI JR 790GX-M3H5 and 550 yesterday from NewEgg and it's a 0923APMW (which hasn't even been mentioned in this thread). I'm having troubles unlocking it, but then it could just be me as I've never had an AMD CPU or have ever used AMD BIOS. I can get the BIOS to say "Phenom II X4 B50" and it will get past the "Windows was not shut down properly screen" but it won't show the Windows green loading bar, it just hangs at the blank black screen. Has anyone else had luck with this batch?

Man do I have a nuclear reactor posing as a cpu or is it my old Scythe Mine Rev. B not up to the task? The second I run any type of stability test (p95,IBT,) it hard locks no matter the voltage. Way too much heat.

edit: btw 0922 APMW delivered today

What temps does it go up to? You sure it's mounted correctly?

Yeah It's mounted right. Remounted twice and the contact patch was good both times. The chips idles at 48-50C with 4 cores at >1.3v . Don't know how high the temps get because windows locks up. It's an old skt 939 era cooler but it keeps my x3 720 at 35-38C idle and 48-50C load. With 2 cores it doesn't go over 45C at load. I was planning on getting a new cooler anyway so I guess I'll be looking for something tomorrow.

I just got mine today it's in my hands. I am about to try it out on a UD3P. I think I may have a stepping not seen yet 0924BPMW (did not see it when I did a search on all the pages of this thread).

Those temps are extremely high considering your speed/vcore unless your ambients are 40c? What are your ambients?

    So here's an update:

After messing around with more and more settings in my BIOS, I still can't get my computer to go to the green loading Windows bar, it just stops after the "Windows was not properly shutdown" screen. I was also told on another forum that I could boot into Safe Mode, uninstall the CPU, then boot into Windows normally. Well when I try to do that, my computer hangs at the screen when Windows is loading the system files, specifically right after it loads crcdisk.sys (IIRC). Do you guys think my OS could be corrupt and is holding me back from unlocking the other two cores?

Ambient temp is <24C. Either this is a burner or my cooler just isn't up to the ask of cooling a quad.

Have you tried bumping the voltage? Bump it up to 1.5v to see if it will boot and then work down from there if it will boot. 0919EPMW seems like a good batch for the most part.

It sounds like your Windows installation is corrupt because you can't even boot to it with 2 cores enabled. So do a fresh install.

    EDIT:
Ok a little copy link location, add a "c" in the filename and here it is:

Question about putting ACC -2% to all four cores. What exactly does it do? I have a X2 unlocked to X4 overclocked to 3.8ghz (19multix200) at 1.456v. Settings are hyper,ACC all cores -2%. I am trying to get it to 3.9 or 4.0ghz. Does the settings i modify in the ACC affects my clocks? I might be limit out.. but I have a feeling that i can squeeze out another 100 or 200mhz. Please help me out here. Temps are fine, idles at 38c full load while running prime is around 55-58c on Zalman9900 air cooler. PSU is good, putting out enough power. Should i try to raise the north bridge voltage a bit? because is on stock voltage now. Voltages are all stock except Core and Vdim. Any suggestions would be appropriated.

    Have you tried another BIOS...

Even your Chipset Temp is kinda hot... Are your Abiant temps around 30c or Higher?

Last ,,Ive seen some Bioses overvolt the NB or CPUvid even though the CPU says its @ 1.1v it may be @ 1.55v..Somthing to look into with 40c idles.

Also what type of paste are you using and how much did you put on?.

Always check the inprint the HS leaves on IHS.. If its not contacting at least in a full circle or size of a quater ,, you may have bad contact making heatdisapation harder..

I always go way overboard, big blob in the middle of the cpu. The rest squishes out the side. I'm using cheap Unick thermal paste.

    biostar 790gx-xe

I have the 790gx xe motherboard for my wife. i Put my Be 550 in and using the 1/13/09 bios with acc on auto it will unlock. I think my batch week is the 19. IF you try the newest bios it will not post with acc set to auto. Also that motherboard does not have options to adjust NB. It does work with latest version of AOD to change multiplyer. Voltage changes must be made in bios. This motherboard works ok if you are looking for a mild oc. Say 3.6-3.8 more than that and it doesn't seem to be to stable. I have not tried to raise the base clock so some gains might be had there. But the biggest set back is on not being able to change the NB multipler. I will have a test later this week early next week on the msi 790fx-gd70. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Immortal, crcdisk.sys boot error usually means one of the memory sticks got loose. Otherwise you can just repair your windows installation with your windows cd on startup.

Yeah, I reseated the RAM and the error went away. However, I'm pretty sure that my batch truly has two defective cores that won't unlock. I've tried almost everything now, and no matter what I do, it always hangs right before the Windows green loading bar screen.

    Anyone else have a 0923APMW?

Ahhhh that might be my problem. I just read ACC doesn't work on the latest BIOS (525) which is a shame because that BIOS offcially supports the 550be whereas the older one doesn't. Also you can change the NB frequency all the way past 3600MHz, not sure if the old BIOS does this.

Time to put on the old BIOS and try ACC with my chips.

I'll try one of the other beta bios out there. I'm on 1.4B4 beta. I've been using tuniq tx-2 ( same as mx-2 ?) and I've gotten a good contact patch. Only the corners of the ihs are clean. I apply using a .33" line down the center of the ihs. This has worked fine for me in the past.
