almost loose my system for just 2 o-rings

For stupid as it may seems i almost lost my system for 2 simple brand new o-rings that came with my BFG GTX285 H2O OC wich came with a danger den full cover block and some DD barbs...

i put it to work a month ago and 3 days ago i looked inside the PC and BOTH barbs where leaking from the o-rings...inmediately i turn everything off and pull apart all...thanks god as the block has a big surface water didn't drop...

here are some pic, yesterday i sent a mail to BFG, i been building water systems and never happened this...

the barbs as i took them a month after use

see how destroyed they are and i didn even thigthen them much...they look like o-rings used for years...and also left the residue on the copper of the water block




so well i starded building again i took the chance to clean all and put new tygons just running destilled + some drops of algae control and testing for leaks on that part








after hours of running and testing for leaks i put it to work again









and finally after cleaning all temps drop and are great considering im on 22C ambient and im runing the Q9650 vid 1,1875 that heats up a lot and sharing the loop with the GTX at that OC on the pic

Thank goodness I bought a dozen spare O-rings from Vincent and use them to replace worn or suspected ones when i last redid the loop

You can't see the metal under the outside clamp ring. There is clamping force beyond what the pics can show.

Pics are one thing. Holding a clamp in your hand and seeing it how it surrounds the tubing is another.

Don't tell me your basing your tubing secure methods religion on a picture. Thats not a XS way of thinking.............

Ermmm....I think I've used this type of clamps before and noticed the gap, plus how the thinner walled tubings tend to get squeezed into that gap, causing a minor leak
ie. its not a 360 seal, more of a 320 with a 40 gap

i never ever had any leaks using this clamps, the leak came from the original o-rings on the barbs that came on the VGA...

i built 5 using this clamps and as you cant see it the other part of the clamp (inside the gap) is holding the tube.

the point of my topic was to show how the hell in a month 2 o rings at the same time can be destroyed as on the pic i show at the top, i claimed to BFG this still no answer but for me they came bad, im runing just destilled + some drops of anti algae nothing more. After a month when i saw the leak i took them out and looked like used for 5 years...this is the point, and im also very carefull in terms of tighten things too much.

What coolant mix were you using before?

Could be a combination of that and hot-cold cycles. Hey it happened to the Challenger...

i was using the same as always 95% destilled + 5% glycol + some drops of anti algae, now i rebuilt all and clean all very very good and only running destilled + some drops of anti algae

well this is my first BFG and clocks amazing but never expected this specially so much degradation on the orings, as if i where some kind of acid on the loop...all other orings on other pieces are perfect and running for months....and this ones only last a month....

I have one tiny advice for you.. DON'T USE WATER! Isn't safety worth that 1°C difference? (Maybe not even that.. cause I tested Feser One and distilled water and guess what.. Feser was 1°C better.. and its 100% non-conductive.. if it leaks, and stop cooling = PC will just shutdown cause of high temperatures.. much nicer than dead PC).

fail... distilled water = non-conductive... its the impurities in most water thats conductive.

No really, difference is almost zero from distilled water.. and its really non-conductive. Plus I don't need to worry about algae growing etc. or mixed metals.

Im pretty sure that nanofluid will work same, or better.. friend has it in system and its pretty good..

Watter is good for drinking (not distilled) but not for cooling any electrical HW .. I like my PC too much and spend too much to loose him for just few bucks/EUR which is some coolant worth..
