Insignificant update here ... just want to give a big shout out to both BlueAqua and to dualbrain. Nils/aka dualbrain/aka Santa, is sending me some new blue sleeving, and Kirk sent me some more heat shrink. I use a lot, because I tend to practice before doing the final version. And, don't everyone go pouncing on them, I'm sure they are doing what they can to get more sleeving available in the US.

On another note ... I emailed Sapphire about my dead 4870X2, and told them exactly what happened. The response I got "Why do you think your warranty is void? If you have the stock cooler, put it back on and we'll check it out." Welllllll, I'm in the midst of the RMA process. We'll see what happens, but at least there is a chance I will save the card. That spurred me to get my bu-- in gear and process the RMA for the Rampage Exteme mobo I killed a few months ago. Sooooo, no hard feelings on my part if these don't go through, but it's worth a try.

Hi Brother E. I just try to get some decent light, use a tripod, and work on getting the focus and white balance correct. For pics like these, I just set the cables on a board (usually a white posterboard, open the front door to get some natural light and snap away. Takes a bit more work to get pics of the finished setup. Practice, practice, practice is what it takes for us amateurs

Thanks, millertime. Yep ... in fact I ordered one of those last week, but they sent the 20-pin version. I think there's an issue with AC Ryan product stock at the moment.

No real updates. Waiting for more blue sleeving to arrive. Took about two days to get RMAs processed for the 4870X2, a Rampage Extreme Board, and an Ultra X3 1000W PSU. The Rampage Extreme was a nightmare, because ASUS said it had already been back 3 times. I never sent it back, so that means Newegg sent me a used board as a replacement for the one that died within their 30 day period. Had I known that was their option, I should have just waited and sent it to ASUS in the first place. But, when these go through, I'll have almost a whole new setup.

Did mess around a bit as I was sorting parts, and did this wonderfully neat build - it surpasses my previous attempts at cable management:

(note sure what's happening ... this pic keeps disappearing?)

Small update. Didn't want folks to think I'd done a "NaeKuh" on this build. Just not much time to work on the project. Got some more blue sleeving - thank you Nils

Also got a decent deal on a GPU that I think will work better for the final use of the AMD setup (HTPC) - picked up the Gigabyte 4870. Went with the Swiftech MCW60-Rev 2, as I've never used anything but the FC GPU blocks - and a bit more flexibility wrt the 4870 x 4890 cards.

Yes ... I know the fan comes off I'll just leave the stock heatsinks on, and not use the optional arm for the MCW60.

Shaz I am gonna bug you again: Will you fly out to PDXLAN 15 in JAN 2010 if I get you seats? I will introduce you to plenty of industry folks who will love your work. You can get a pelican padded case to bring a build safely. I will bring a monitor for you.

Shaz and I have been buds for a long time. If only we could get some of the other former NBF Scooby gang over here as well. A bunch of us were banned from NotebookForums and many more left when Dell bought out Alienware and a retard mod there weilded his homo ban hammer. Shaz and I made the move from being boutique owners to hardcore DIYers.

Would love to go, but our travel schedule is pretty hectic for the next year or so. I'll keep practicing on my builds to be ready some day!
