    GTX 300 = Q1 2010, a good 4 months after 5870 launch.

    Nvidia's prices will go down when ATI's cards come out in October, so wait for then.

    Because the monster will be fast, but not faster than two $250 285s in SLI

    People always think in small quantities, what if you need more performance than 2x285? that is where NVIDIA has always made money and is why SLI got out.

    AFAIK GDDR5, 40nm, and more is coming sooner than expected from NVIDIA can't really say more.

    This is the exact reason I'm still running GTX 280's SLI gaming & Tri SLI for benching. There just doesn't seem to be any products coming out with significant perfomance increase over previous hardware. If one GT300 outperforms two GT200's or performs the same then I'll buy one upon first release. This in my opinion is the only time to change graphics hardware. 7900GTX SLI is equal to one 8800GTX, 8800GTX SLI is equal to one GTX 280 so wait for whenever GTX 280 SLI is equal to one single gpu card.

    The information you may have may be new to the members here m8, but I'm aware of the 40nm GT200 DX10.1 Series coming this Q3 2009 and there is little need to jump on that bandwagon as Nvidia will try to profit as much as it can from it till the GTX 300 comes out in Q1 2010.

    The 285 doesn't suffer from any heat issues and clocks nicely, so you can go for it as soon as the price cuts come in.

    Soon = GT 200 40nm parts
    January = GT 300

    Nvidia will try to play the marketing game by battling 40nm DX10.1 GT 200 parts with 40nm DX11 R800 part and downlplaying the need for DX11 due to lack of DX11 games.

    Then it'll release the GTX 300 and promote its DX11 features

    There are plenty around with inside info, but we need to know what your current card is and are you running a single or dual card/gpu system. Nvidia's next product launch is still not worth the $$ over certain configurations. $500+ is too much to invest on a single card for a mere 6 months for some people. Not sure if that's the case for you.
