Whoa, nice clocks on the x4 550
But you have to admit that if the 550 didn't unlock all 4 cores the x3 720 would've been superior. I tried unlocking mine but it wouldn't boot into windows with all cores no matter what, so i dropped the ideea.
For cooling i'm using a Mugen2 which is doing a nice job. Even better when i "upgrade" it with 2 scythe kaze@3000rpm (noise matters not to me, as long as it's cool).
just use the F5A ATM and tweak it slow
The board i have is the ddr3 version so i'm limited to f4g, but using f4a for now to see how much i can get out of all parts.
I will take your advice and experience into account and settle for 2400 nb clock and try to get best cpu speed and cas7 (maybe cas6 )
Seeing your results, the 550 looks more and more appealing to me

I have finally given up on my MA790XT UD4P and have decided to return it, along with the DDR3 I brought, and get my money back.

Not sure what motherboard to get now

    If it's not too late...

I'm not trying to be patronizing, but....Are you trying to switch to hybrid and set ACC values at the same time? Make sure to switch to hybrid, save, exit, reboot and only then try setting ACC values. That procedure (2 steps!) doesn't cause a lock up on my board, although admittedly I am using an X4 955.

I tried some dice today on my 790X-UD4... Left me with nothing but trouble. If i use more than +0.1V on cpu-nb it will reboot or lock up anytime while booting to windows. If i change the nb multi to any direction it says my xp install has been corrupted. Even if i set it to x10 or x13 doesnt matter at 200fsb.

I also have the same problem as i had on air. Sometimes after ive saved settigs in bios and it should start booting it just shuts down... Then everyone thought it was my crappy psu (ace 620w) but i got a corsair 850W now The only way to get life into it was shutting down the psu and pulling the cord and then reinsert it and it would boot as if nothing had ever happend.

4.75ghz seems to be about max for my 940, with my own made crappy pot though. But then i run nb at auto and 225fsb so i get like 2ghz nb

It probably is. But there are F2 and F2A. Cant remember whats the newest but i have the newest of F2 and F2A.

Are there any real changes in F3F? Thinking of rmaing my board since i have had problems since the day i got it If so, this will be my 2nd gigabyte rma in 1month..

The 550 still would clock higher although the 720 has three cores it be almost dead even. Plus the 550 uses less volts to go highe ranyways.

Beside that both chips perform. I will favor the new kid , as this kid is the Little Big bully of X2's

    Note: UD4/ UD4P
There are resons why the UD4P replaces the UD4.. Clocking and stability seem to be one of them. The UD4 is definately a lot harder to tweak because of this.

I have a friend who retired a UD4 for a UD5P...Night and day. His UD4 he keeps for a back up Mobo now. i decided to grab the UD4P... happy i did seeing i saved over $50.buck for the Same clocking the UD5P offers for DDR2. DDr3 is whole differnt ballgame.

Edit .. SMOWMAN.. If you keep having to RMA the UD4 ask for a UD4P replacement since UD4 has had know problems from day one. you never know they just might agree to send you a UD4P insted. Worth a shot for DDR2 rig.

Ah crap, doesnt seem to promising. Well i can accept that i doesnt allow me to change nb multi since it probably is a bios problem. But i wont accept that it sometimes after ive been into bios shuts down and refuses to boot, thats just not good...

Ill call the company tomorrow, although they dont have the UD4P listed.. Is the regular UD4 removed and replaced with the new UD4P? So there shouldnt be any UD4 left soon?

Not to shure if its removed but im only seeing UD4P on shelves now in Brick and Motor stores vs a UD4. Most places got rid off them in my area.

See if they have a UD5P maybe and iff thell discount you for the problems.. Thats the only other DDR2 mobo by gigabyte that runs Two Vidoecard slots and will clock like the UD4P and Unlock.

Or shoot for a Biostar 790GX with 750sb.. There are options,, even a M4A78-T 790GX would be good.

Just see if thell work with ya. Everything counts, when it comes to getting hardware that works as it should for the Money.

Okey, just checked and they just had MA790GP-UD4H and M4A79-Deluxe. Is the gigabyte 790GP a okey oc board?

This is what i've come up with, so far:

I used the "1 good minute" trick, although i think i've waited about 2 after i've set the voltages and 2 more after rebooting into bios again.
    Call me paranoid
Using 1.4v on the NB vid and +.250 for CPU NB vid; NB multi is at 11x.
Finally i'm over the 2400 barrier and the voltage seems to have been applied, or so is everest telling me.
    What do you guys think?

That pic is avitar sized for me...Tried to open and was like where the magnify glass..

Hows the Temps Under load and Idle.. If there good run it and keep checking stability..

I've managed to resize the pic so it will show full resolution.
Idle temps are shown in the pic. Haven't tested stability yet, because the ambient temps were too high (33-36 C) but i'm going to do some blend prime.
I think i've heard *chew saying that it's a good way to stress the NB.

Blend test failed on 3rd core after 1 minute. Seconds later it failed on the 2nd core also..
Should i pump more volts in the cpu, or you think the NB is clocked too high?

Did it fail because of Heat..Your Idle looks fine,,

If the Load temps were through the roof try one setting lower on NBvid and retest.

If it goes longer with out failing ,, Your may be running Hot under load or slightly too high NBvid

    2nd,,
Cpu Vcore could also be a hair Too low if not Heat realted, .Since the NB is higher the CPU may need one or two bumps in volts to keep stables under load with add freqency..

CPUvcor or CPUvid 1.52-1.54v should make it stable if this is the case.

    Last,,
Try NBvid one step lower first, if Fails right away try one step Higher Nbvid.

Keep close eye on temps. If there good then bump CPUvcore/CPUvid up to 1.52v or a hair more.

Mine liked Higher CPUvcore when useing Higher NB.. If worst case the 720 using 2400/2500nb is good . just tweak your timing..if thats the case

It isn't the heat. Load temps are 48 for cpu and 45 for nb. Gonna go for higher CPU vcore now.

Its too late its on its way back.

Don't worry about the patronizing thing, I'm the kind of guy who always forgets to plug the PCI-E power cable into my graphics card and then gets worried why my system wont boot!

Trust me though, I tried every possible setting, BIOS, method, etc, to get my UD4P AM3 stable and get hybrid mode working.

I was using a lapped Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 HSF and was seeing system lockups even at stock settings when running prime

My patience came to an end when I could clock my x2 550 to 200x19, so 3.8GHz, at everything stock apart from CPU at 1.4V. It ran prime95 for 5 hours at 41'C load absolutely fine, I then did a reboot and the fricking system wouldn't boot until I cleared the CMOS.

Then there were the constant USB bus issues which meant upon booting it never recognised my keyboard (even with USB keyboard/mouse mode enable in BIOS) this is turn meant trying to get into the BIOS never worked, and god forbid if Windows had 7 had crashed when I was tweaking because it would automatically go into recovery mode unless I told it not to, which I could never do because the damn keyboard wasn't recognised half the time!!!!!! AGRHHHHHHH!!!

I can't return the CPU due to online retailers policies, but I sure as hell returned that board and RAM.

I'm gonna pick up a Biostar TA790GX XE, pop in 2 sticks of Hyper-X DDR2 that are my two best clocking sticks, and go from there. Less money, less hassle and from peoples comments in the AMD thread it seems like a good board that does allow core unlocking. Oh the bonus is, its Matx meaning it will make a nice small crunching box

    As for Clocking the 720,,
720's can use up to 1.55vid depending on cooling.

    A 720 unlocked will get about 3600/3700 stable with around 2400nb .

Ive only seen a few that did 3800mhz on all four cores...My 720 was not one of them that did that 24/7. I could only do small runs with it. it was rock solid@ 3600mhz-3700mhz depending on Nb i used.

    it took 1.4+ NBvid and 1.52 CPUvid/vcore to get 3650mhz/2500nb @X4cores

    STOCK VOlts UD4P and 720BE.

MAX CPU multi Clock UD4P and 720BE..Note i did not raise the NB @3800mhz ,it would make it unstable. 720's dont clock like a 550 thats for shure.

My 24/7 with 720BE,, UD4P i used NBvid +.250 = 1.45vid to get the NB to 2600mhz . That was even unstable so i just settle for 3600/2400nb . If you want a good Unlocker a 550 hands down compared to 720.

    Last Both My Chips 550 unlocked @ 4100mhz and 720 X3 @3950mhz.

    Green is 550............Red is 720.
I had to run the 720 in NormalX3cores so it could keep up. the 720 in X4cores @ 3600mhz only benched 17500 with same Mobo and Vidcard.

So If your using a 720 for benching ,, Its best to keep it a X3 and go for a huge OC on it.

As for the 550 it simply changes the Rules and wipes the 720 clean regardless.

Sry about long post..UD4P will run either chip regardless,, just use the F5A ATM and tweak it slow.
Yeah your 720BE results are mirror of mine, aside the fact i m using 8gb, of slower ddr2 800 ram, but i think my unlocked core is the issue, it can handle 3.5ghz, but requires 1.475v cpu vid to stay stable, on 3 cores i booted into windows at 3.8.. same with my imc, i can add volts but it doesnt want to stay stable above 2200. I might just get a 550 be haha.

Ahh your using Windows 7.. I m running to some random problems too as a result. For example if you boot up with external devices, IE i have a WD external harddrive, it will crash, bsod, the only thing i can boot with usb wise, is my logitec webcam, and mouse. haha. But i know thats a windows issue, not a mobo, because it was totally fine, when i was vista ultimate. I found that if you turned off usb/hdd in boot devices it stopped 90% of the bsods for win 7. it tries to boot from my mouse.. probably not a good idea(my mouse has programmable flash chip in it.)

My P5Q-E and E7400 @ 3.8GHz 1.35V have no issues with the same hardware when running the exact same copy of Windows 7.

Trust me, either I had a bugged board, RAM or CPU. I cant outright afford another board that supports DDR3 to test the RAM so both have gone, leaving just my CPU to find a new home when I get refunded the money.or

Thanks dude, yeh I had my suspicions set on the motherboard as well.

Just got to wait until next week until I can buy a different board.

It could still be my CPU thats causing ACC not to work, it may have two cores that are totally defective and just cant handle being activated

All I know is that I have a homeless 550BE sat on my desk
