I once found an aging half of a cheese sandwich in a PC a client returned. I was working as a drone in a PC shop at that stage, and it turned out the bosses son had done a half-arsed build job on the machine (which was why it had to be returned) and had left his lunch inside it.

This arrived to us last week.....complaint was it was giving warnings that something was "overheating," and locking up/freezing upon boot into Windows.

I removed the fan....you can see what was underneath. Neat part is you can see the clean spots left by the outer edge of the fan and the fan's hub.

But this isn't the worst I've seen (imagine opening up a case and getting hit in the face with the dead roach smell and finding over 30-40 dead roaches everywhere inside, not to mention the "treasures" left by them....threw that one outside and made the owner pick it up immediately!).....or nearly as bad as has been posted here already in this thread.

I can think of a few ways.

I used a cloth, thin one, worked ok for me.
Alternatively you could use a soft paint brush with warm water... just hold the blades in place with your finger... Just to loosen/move the buildup and then just some toweling or whatever to clean up.

I find going that far though is a bit of a waste... no point as within a few weeks or so that dust look is back on the blades in a fine coating.
Unless of course you were taking ya PC somewhere to show it off, then of course give it a full go over

the idea to wash them was a suggestion from Naekuh from the first time I posted the pics:

Dont worry, alex showed everyone on XS that yates work submerged in water and pink lemonade!

so all you really want to do is just let them bake outside in the sun tomorrow to dry.

Its about timing saving dinos. 10 min with a brush vs 15 sec on a shaking.

Thats what alex "petra" was trying to get across when fesser tried to show off there coolant as non conductive.

It was a classic PWN from alex.

And he even showed us it works with Pink lemonade also!
so basically, dunk them in a bucket with warm water and a little detergent, shake the crap out of them for a few seconds...rinse...let it dry for a day on the sun if you can...done... all the yates I washed worked perfectly afterwards.

I would think submerging them would allow some of the grease in the bearing to leak out... Sure, it will be fine just after you wash it, but it could degrade the life of the fan. It would be nice to hear of someone doing some long-term tests on this.

Nothing more than an old toothbrush is needed. If its so caked on that you need something more, then dip your toothbrush in isopropyl.
Boy that info was old. As am I. Currently my kids have taken over my desktops. They are both sporting matching GTX1080's. Last Christmas I got everyone Oculuses and thus GTX1080's. My eldest is some sort of CSGO champion gold label something or other. Me I work and shoot real guns. Build Comps as needed.

    oh my gawwwwd...

i don't even know how they managed to fill their computers with that much dust. i clean my pcs like one time a year only and there's very little dust in them. some of the pcs look like as if 10 cats died infront of the pcs and the fans slowly soaked every little bit of the cats inside LOL!

living in a room where the pcs look like that isn't that healthy i guess
