Doesn't match all mobos ... Gigabyte is white. Not really a big issue with me, more for fun.

I got a 20/24pin to 20/24pin extension I'm sleeving right now. Because it's a converter of 20 to 24 and/or 24 to 20, it's got some Y connectors that fit into 1 socket. I've cut off the excess arm of the Y so that it's now single stranded. But I also noticed that some of the reds and blacks cross over and do not go straight across to their respective holes in the plug relative to one another. Some are twisting in and out. I just want to make sure, is it safe to rearrange them so they are straight?

All I'm doing is extending the PSU's 24-pin ATX cable so it's just a direct extension nothing fancy. I think even if I rearranged the wire colors it would be fine as long as they are straight and in their relative positions, although I'm black to black (GND), red to red (5V), etc...

my asus has white connector, but it doesn't matter. I wanted to make extensions with blue connectors at the end to all mobo ports such as ATX 24pin, 8pin and also 6 & 8 pci-e for GPU, but pieces of the puzzle don't match so I'm going with black connectors + black sleeving with may be blue accents.

I'm so excited to show you guys my new cable sleeving... too bad I have to wait till probably monday to get my crimper and pins from P-PCS....

Hi titus1972 - I was going to suggest you contact Ultra about getting a spare cable - sounds like you've done that and are set.

I'm in a similar predicament to you ... with the DD Torture Rack and a 100% modular PSU. I bit the bullet and went ahead and cut my ATX cable to the length I wanted, crimped new connectors and so on. Here's a pick of Work in Progress:


Still need to take pics of the final product, but I probably cut mine a little too short. Make sure you leave enough play in there to arrange the uni-sleeved cables nicely

Nice set up shazza, that is the right way to do it all on nothing I say. I have a butane heat gun but I like the electric better safer and more even heat i bet. How do you match the cables up with the right pin placement or are you using original wiring?

2 quick questions...

I have a Cosmos S which comes with a lil ATX 24 pin extension. I want to sleeve each cable. Is there a tool I can use that will remove both ATX male and female plugs? I won't have to re-pin them will I? I'd hate to have to buy a crimper for just 24 pins.

By the way, awesome guide, I was somewhat afraid of doing this, especially for SATA cables but now I realize its not that bad.

I do have a reccomendation for those who are looking at buying a crimping tool from Performance-PCs....
spend the extra few bucks getting the deluxe model, I bought the basic model, and I hate it, the grips pretty much slide off on their own, and well, overall, just feels cheap
wondergod, Best personal and cheap guess would be to pick up the sunbeam toolkit, it's decent, mudermods also sells one thats direct from the "creator" of molex connectors, and from what I keep hearing is absolutely amazing, but also a bit high on the $$ side

Thanks Dragoonxx, honestly, I was going to get the Murdermod sleeving anyways so I'll pick up one of their molex tools. If that doesn't work I have a store by me that sells the sunbeam kit. I was just worried about having to re-crimp them.

@ wondergod. You won't have to recrimp as long as you aren't cutting your wires to a new length. (Caveat ... I've had one or two pins where the wires popped from the pin when removing it from the connector, but let's chalk that up to user error.)

After doing two PSUs, I've finally gotten the hang of the little $5 tool (check out Petra's Tech). Much easier than staples. I also have the more expensive one from PPCs, but the blades are slightly thicker, and I find it doesn't work as well for most of the pins. If you are going to go the tool route, you'll probably need a spare or two

I've been using my power supply and was wondering if there's anything i need to do before i go pulling the whole thing apart so i can sleeve the 24pin so i don't electrocute myself? i remember reading somewhere about capacitors storing power even when unplugged, and i think i need to remove the entire outer casing to sleeve the 24pin.

From left to right, 1) PCI-E 6 pin, 2) PCI-E 8 pin, 3) Sata, 4) 4-pin Molex, and 5) 24-pin ATX.

Those should work. I'd also recommend you pick up a PSU tester if you don't already have one. It's easy to screw up the order of the wires, so best to safe before plugging into your motherboard.
