They simply don't know what specifications the chip in question has... They only have the die size.

And nobody knows if this is the former RV870 or maybe RV830. It's a guessing game at this point it seems.

Plus die size tells us nothing. ATI went from 55nm 150mm^2 in RV730 to 40nm 137mm^2 and crammed in twice as many shaders and TMUs...
