It's a bit of a mis-speak. The backplate cutout works for a large number of boards, but once tooling was complete some new board designs came out from eVGA, Asus, and Gigabyte which move the CPU slightly lower and in the eVGA case, over to the right a bit.

We are looking at making the backplate access hole larger right now.
