Retail Q9650 Overclocking Thread

I hope this is an appropriate place to post this, but where's a good place to pick up a relatively cheap q9650 these days? Anywhere cheaper than the egg?

The egg is still the best place if you want to get a brand new Q9650, but you could find used Q9650's that have good batches since a lot of people are going the i7 Road.

Anybody had this, all i did was remve one of my HDD's, i tried unplugging the power for 1/2 hour, loaded defaults, booted fine at deefault, once i put my overclock back i get stuck at this screen.

i had that happen three times on my first UD3P.i had to RMA it after it finally died(went into the nonstop reboot cycle)

i've had that happen as well -- my fix: memory timings were screwed up.

Hey guys

finally my BFG GTX285 H20 OC arrived yesterday...so after some hours of surgery i shoot a 3DM06 in her stock clocks with the Q9650 at my stable 4500mhz

i was astonished how fast the combo is and how cool is the card max load temp is 40C at 24,5C ambient / 19C outside, its 15C less than the ultra, so my core readings lowered like 3C

i wish i could have gotten my Q9650 to do 9x500@4500 ddr1200.i can do it with my E8400,but i would love to have done it with a Quad.

just grab a L828A446 and you will mate

you can feel the speed took me a long time to get the system this fast and i love it, i was so anxious that i just cut the tubes and installed it, i was going to remove all plasticidez tygons but i couldn't lol, i just wanted to try this beast

a new one mate...you can find it on ebay we brought it from Canada all L828A446 are ALL vid 1,15to 1,1875 that's why i say so, of course such a low vid for me in summer i have to forget about 4400 or 4500 (i don like cores IDLE at 47C) but in winter its a pleasure

yes hoss i have AC but im telling the temps without it...In a normal summer day temps will go to 29C inside my house / 36 outside, but now on winter i got 20C to 23C inside / 10 to 14C outside.

This batch is very hot but very nice to play.

i found out why my boot screen went all screwie, i installed a temp operating system using the gsata, then when i swapped it to the intel sata i got a screwed screen, swapped it back and now its fine, kinda strange.

Nice overclock guys, I'm quite happy with mine at 4Ghz on air with a Zalman 9700NT cooler, does a pretty good job as well.

My system's att 4,4Ghz now. Only adjusted the vcore and the vtt. Vcore 1.40v vdrop to 1,38v and vtt 1,44v. Anyone have any suggestions on settings for ram timing\volt, NB SB volts.. It's not prime stable, but stable enough to play games and run 3dmark. Anything that can be adjusted so i might get to oc the 4870x2 some.. Just abit of oc and i get fragmets. Tried 4.5 just for fun but no go..
Put the volt up to 1,435vcore 1,48vtt.. Time to get a one of these maybe

Try adding some core voltage. You are up almost 1Ghz barely over stock volts.

Any reason your multi is at 8.5 instead of 9?

i keep playing with my Q9650 and the GTX285 awesome card keeps going up and up, i also played with the Q9650 at 510x9

Have you checked to see if its stable yet? Your chip may or may not need that much vcore so if thats stable try raising the fsb more. On my Dlx. for that FSB I used 1.2312vc, 1.54pll, 1.26vtt, 1.28nb, cpu gtls @ .635, nb gtl at .665. I was only using 4gb of ram so you probably wont be able run the nb I did but you may be able to lower it some. Also if you havent set the PL you should be able to lower it 2 steps down from auto.
