    ASUS Station-ROG OC Controller !!!

ASUS has revealed that it will release hardware overclocking panel-OC Station - ROG OC Controller, which is corresponding to latest R.O.G series motherboard.

It also support some parameter monitor, such as voltage, external frequency, temperature, frequency and so on.It adopts l3" TFT-LC panel, which provides all information and display user defined pictures. It can support pure hardware overclocking and ensures stability because of Hardware-based OC.While Movable Faceplate can tilt.

This is for the ROG series only I suppose ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

How does it connect to the mobo? Also, what boards will support it?

    Asus likes big knobs... hehehe.

Honestly though, i think this thing is gaudy and would only really appeal to noob overclockers...

are there any additional info or sources on this thing? i don't get how this thing works. do you turn the knob and it cranks up the fsb or something? and how does it connect to the mobo?

recently, i've been turned off by asus products, especially the RoG series.

That looks really pretty cool to be honest, be nice if it can be used for other motherboards.

That thing would just look so out of place on my computer and secondly overclooking through bios is not really that bad is it to warrant some sort of strange 5.25 inch bay thing.

    Suprise, suprise.

Asus specializes in flashy over priced products aimed at "noob overclockers".

Now if they could only release a decent enough "bios" to allow the so called "ROG" line to "really" overclock.... I would have to assume that somewere near the lower end of the knob there is a BSOD setting.......

looks like a copy of the foxconn quantumforce OC panel...
they did a good job though, color lcd screen, complex plastic mold shape to make it look expensive, and apparently a detailled menu to adjust fanspeeds and voltages and clockspeeds.

color lcd screen - i think thats overspecced, why do you need this to adjust your system clocks and voltages
fanheaders on the actual unit - bad idea imo, it would be better if it can access the fanspeed controls of the mainboard, cause this is an external unit, so wiring fans from there to the system is kinda annoying

the bigest problem i see with this is intel locking all registers on i7 after bootup... so we cant change sht after the system booted... no mem timings or any other performance related settings. this means all youll be able to do with this is adjust the bclock, pciE clock (maybe) and voltages... for those things i think tweakit is more than enough...

in my opinion, if there is anything outside of the bios that sets overclocking settings it is bound to mess up. Software just isnt going to give the right translation to the bios and im sure there are times when all these soft overclocking methods just brick boards. I just do not like it at all. Now ASUS is coming out with a knob based device that helps you oc? why? all im trying to understand is why is this necessary on a board like the ROG boards that are designed for extreme overclocking and not knob-clocking.

Also, i believe Eleet is basically the program that allows you the most abilities when OCing in the OS and it aint much.

    the knob falls off? ^^

the system will probably freeze if you turn it too far to the right... or too far to the left too, cause the imc and chipset are adjusted during bootup... if you change the clockspeeds too much from what they were at bootup, youll freeze the system even if you reduce clocks.
on BloodRage i managed to boot with a bclock as low as 72mhz ^^ not stable though...

Can I still RMA my board or is this at own risk ?

if it works like shaminos foxconn quantumforce oc panel, then its useful as it allows on the fly access to clocks and voltages while the system is running a benchmark. so you can quickly reduce clocks a tad in some parts of a benchmark that is more demanding than others. this might give you maybe 50 or 100mhz higher cpu clocks on average... useful for benching, not really useful for 24/7...
