What do you guys think is faster/better.

2x 60gb vertex drives in a raid 0 (onboard raid) or 1 of the 120gb vertex drives which has the higher cache. Both setups are about the same cost.

I heard the new 30GB and 60GB models had the higher cache. Is this true?

Give other OCZ customers another month or so before you buy to find all the problems in the latest firmware. Then make your decision.

nope. They all have 64mb. Personally I'd go with one 120GB. As often (from my prospective) RAID doesn't benefit most real world tasks.

Cool, i just read on newegg under comments for the 30gb that it says 64mb cache but it was actually 32mb for the 30gb and 60gb models, thats definitely wrong right?

So why do I keep hearing that the 120GB model is faster than the 30GB and 60GB models?

NAND cell density in the 120 & 250 + a slightly different design because of it. This is why I bought the 2 of the 120's.

Anyone have any findings on whether to use AHCI yet? I am getting ready to put in my dfi-p35 and still unsure whether to use ACHI or IDE.....

The 30 and 60GB models were "suppose" to have 32mb cache, but were released with 64mb. Most sites just haven't updated their info. But the 30 and 60GB models are slightly slower because they have less "channels" between the NAND and the controller.

    scottc19,
According to everything I've seen on OCZ forums, you want to run your SATA controller in RAID mode, even if not using RAID.

which doesn't make sense. If offers no benefit to performance. Personally I'll stick with AHCI. I am not about to cripple the rest of my system just because a Vertex doesn't support all the AHCI functions. Either way AHCI has been working fine for it.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I always believed enabled RAID automatically enabled AHCI?

It likely does, but it doesn't offer any benefit either

It offers the ability to make a raid array within minutes.
    AHCI = RAID
Even intel recommends to use raid mode for future compatibility.

Some boards will limit your sustained read at 166MB/s per drive when ICH is in IDE mode. I solved it by enabling RAID+Native Sata+Write-back cache in Intel Matrix.

Suggest you test it for yourself and see how it goes.

So major problems with this drive on ASUS Crosshair II formula and win7. I can install win7 on it, but always within 3 or more reboots something is wrong and it can no longer boot from the OS, this is not happening with my mechanical seagate drives. Anybody seen anything like this?

System in sig, and it's the 1199 firmware.

How long does the wiper program take to complete? At the rate it is going, it is going to take 3 hours to wipe a 30GB drive. I can't imagine how long the 120GB is going to take.

Should be about a minute depending on how full the drive is!
Edit: It took about 1 minute 40 Seconds on an empty drive.
Should take about 6 mins on an empty 120gb drive, Allot less if half full.
