I did start a thread about the best GTX 295 and waterblock combo, but I couldn't turn it in to a thread so I started one here instead.

u guys forgot out of all the blocks shown,

Koolance is the only one with real working standoff's

so its a no brainer in which block to pick.

Bundy you need standoff's on your blocks, or a lot of people on this forum WONT buy them.

We went though nightmares with the EK blocks not having standoff's, so a lot of people arent gonna repeat that mistake. Eddie even made revisions with standoff's but unfortunately, there not perfect and still giving a lot of people problems.

I made a hugh deal about this and forced Eddie to make them on the revisions basically.

However, he hasnt gotten them done correctly yet, a lot of members are still reporting they have no clue on how to get the standoff's done correctly on the EK blocks.

The Heatkiller block has no standoff's so it automatically gets thrown out the door on my recomendations:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...93#post3365293

im sorry it looks nice but whats a point in a block that can damage your card by warping it?

    Standoff's in silver:

Standoff's machined directly onto the block:

See KL and DD is the only 2 blocks right now with standoff's. So those are my only 2 recomendations when it comes to fullcover blocks.

I think the majority of the problems comes from peoples incompetence in installing. I have been using ek full cover blocks since they started, and have yet to have a problem. Great temps, great contact.

at first i thought that too.

til i started warping my cards, and then Cyberdruid shorted his cards, and then theres countless threads of people who shorted or warp there cards.

So unless your calling me and cyberdruid and a few other vets incompetient in fc installing, no... FC cards without standoffs are just flawed in general.

They do, but they give people like shazza and seeker issues in getting them setup correct, and i call that a failed standoff as well.

careful note when installing a FC card on a dualcard gpu like that.

the internal mini sli cable is not backwards compatiable. Meaning theres only 1 way it can go in, but fits 2 ways.

A lot of people goof on this part, and it makes the card not boot up. So make sure you pay extra attention to that internal SLI cable.

When you pull the stock sink you'll know what im talking about.

good call on the standoffs, it was like it was a big issue then everyone forgot, i was watching this thread to see
if the person reviewing them and obviously a fan of the HK's was going to mention that issue.

myself I am a big koolance fan

A touch of glue on each plastic standoff to hold it in place over the hole should be enough on the EK, though I agree Eddy should be milling them right into the blocks. Especially for what he charges!

    Thanks.

I'll try and keep the SLI cable intact if I can. FFCs like are a nightmare to work with.

The nightmareish experience I had with FFCs was when I was making a projector from an old TFT monitor. Cheap an nasty cable that had a tendancy to tear.

Well like I said before, I have had there blocks many times and never ran into issues. And none of those cards had stand offs. BUT standoffs do help so why not add them, it just makes sense.

wow i forgot all about those days, using mcw60's and maze 4's and gluing all those heatsinks, man those were the days, i kinda forgot till you mentioned , guess i'm spoiled now that i am using full card blocks.

i remember last year when i got a ek 9800gx2 block, i screwed it down and i wasn't paying attention and when i went to check it before i used i i noticed the card was out of wak, luckly i didn't mess it up, but that is when i first noticed the standoff situation, i used some spare rubber washers that i had around.

Having looked at both the ek and koolance blocks, the koolance was cheaper and just seemed to be the better design. All 3 of my 285 koolance blocks went on with ZERO issues and i'm getting great temps.

I also went with the Koolance blocks for my 295s.
