bit? What I was talking about is DC cpus and a SC, 2-thread cpu.

    It's a Nehalem i920@stock.
Yeah, with a 2.5Ghz dual-core the usage would skyrocket.. to 3% lol.
Far away from your 20-40% made-up usage.

    For example:
    G45 http://www.silentpcreview.com/article889-page5.html
    Gef9300 http://www.silentpcreview.com/article892-page5.html
    780G http://www.silentpcreview.com/article877-page5.html
and they have many more reviews that show the same.
    Not 3%.

    Your turn.
What's with that stretching of showing an 8-thread processor when
    it's momentarily 1%?

10%? I see much higher average and peak values... Those are all
    HD-equivalent streams listed there. E.g. G45, E7300@2.53G: 28-50%
    avg, 39-63% peak cpu usage.
And yes, these are those chipsets (G45, 780G and Gef9300) that have hw
decoding acceleration; they are even using a player that supports it.

Underclocked? There's two sets of stats, one for full speed and only the
other is underclocked. Even the full speed tests show high avg and peak.

I think you're the one that's burying himself here.
It's clear that you are just trolling, I've proven my point and you are
still just making lame excuses. Kthxbai.

I said "nVidia and ATI GPUs". I never said Intel GMA 4500. It's obvious that no hardware acceleration is working there. Typical deviaton of someone who's lost their reason in the previous page and is desperately trying to twist things in its way.

lets be clear, its obvious hardware acceleration is being supported more often every day. in 6 months onboard video cards may be able to play any format conceived, its limited mostly by drivers, and can change at a moments notice.

It's not in 6 months.. it's right now, with any ATI and nVidia DX10 hardware.

Name one widely used container or one widely used format that's not hardware accelerated.. there is none.

    Ok, then Gef9300, E7300@2.53G:
    avg 6-53%
    peak 11-64%
    780G, 4850e@2.5G:
    avg 5-67%
    peak 10-79%

    Now what?

ive had alot of trouble with my 2900xt, its the first dx10 card they made, and dosnt have native UVD but supposedly that was cause its just too powerful to need the UVD chip. and i really dont care cause i have a PII 940 at 3.5ghz. i cant say if ill have the same problems with newer cards or not.

Well I have to admit there's the exception of the first generation of high-end cards from both ATI and nVidia. Both G80 and R600 lack dedicated, fixed function hardware acceleration for H.264 and VC-1 in PowerDVD.

However, the DXVA acceleration from MPC HomeCinema is done through shaders alone, so if you use that software you'll get hardware acceleration with your 2900XT. Just try it

i have MPC, but i dont know if its the HomeCinema version, and i have played around with the filters alot, i just upscale to 1920 wide and thats about it. i cant find any that improve quality without killing the cpu. mainly de-noise would be nice, but it overall looked to do a crappy job anyway.

MPC HomeCinema is a whole different project.

It's the player guru3D used for H.264 hardware decoding in a matroska container (it's the only one who does it):

Unfortunately the MPC-HC decoder only supports the "bitstream mode" at this stage, which means that only the most recent graphic cards are supported :

    * nVidia series 8(9)xxx for H.264 only
    * ATI Radeon HD series for H.264 and VC-1 decoding

"Motion compensation" mode might be added in the future to increase compatibility with older graphic cards, but I cannot promise anything. Mpeg2 and WMV accelerations are not supported either.

why would u want an NV GPU in a netbook, u arnt going to be gaming on it more than flash games or pop cap so u dont need rendering and for video pure is pure trash in IQ, were AVIVO has the same or better IQ than dedicated devices and includes audio on the card so it can remove the onboard audio

It's not you or Intel or Microsoft who decide if I play games on my netbook or not. It's me. It's the buyer who decides what to do with its netbook.

My netbook is something I carry with me all the time. I have many waiting hours (plane, train, bus, etc) where I would use the netbook for gaming. I could also take it to LANs if I have a spare LCD.
    I like #gaming#, I don't just like #gaming in my desktop#.

Claiming it's pointless to play at 1024*600 is... well, it's pointless. Only in the 2000s people started to use 1024*768 as a standard resolution and gaming certainly wasn't "pointless" until then. All games are made with GUIs that scale with the resolution, so that's not a problem either. And that resolution in a screen this size will actually provide very good detail.
I guess you also never heard of the fastest-selling gaming machine of all time, the Nintendo DS, which has two 256*192 screens?

im not saying that u cant game but getting something graphically more than the cpu can handle. and with the choice of a 3200 or a 9300 the 3200 has better IQ and they have similar performance, im just saying that no1 (or atleast no1 serious) will try something like crysis or COD4 with the atom cpu so the 3200 is a good match.

and most of the DS games are nothing more than flash or pop cap style games driven by marketing and previous consoles

Trying to play COD4 and Crysis in a netbook would be.. stupid..
But to have some serious gaming in the netbook, it doesn't have to be the latest or most demanding games to this day.

A 9400M or a HD32000 with Atom/Nano would allow us to play UT2004 (maxed @1024*600), Far Cry (medium @1024*600), most MMORPGs to date, Half-Life2, CS:S, Doom 3, Quake IV, both KOTORs maxed out, Sims2, GTA:SA, Indigo Prophecy, CIV4, Portal and many others.
Now tell me: isn't this serious gaming?

Bleh I can do that with my Eeepc right now :P
I could even do that in my 4-year old PocketPC lol.

What I would really like is decent XBox1 and PS2 emulation. Playing God Of War with AA forced on would be nice

Anyways, what happened to emulation? It kinda stopped with the PS2/XBox generation.. the latest emulator versions date from 2003 or so..

    This is a SHAM.

MSI reported that the Wind ECO does NOT have the HD 3200. It was a misprint.

UVD, the 120mw VXD HD, etc are all hardcoded hardware decoders AFAIK. So, no drivers will make they capable of decoding rmvb, or1080p H.264 with 9 reference frames, etc.

Name one widely used container or one widely used format that's not hardware accelerated.. there is none.
AFAIK, there is no hardware aceleration for containers. I think it is all software based and is a matter of player support. And most containers can hold non-hardware-acelerable streams, or be extended in non-standart ways (mp4's private track ID, for example). So you can get an mp4 or mkv that won't play in dxva accelerated players. In addition to that, some containers that may not be supported: OGM (.ogm), Ogg Video (.ogg, .ogv), Quicktime (.mov) or Realmedia (.rm, .rmvb), etc.

An small list of most relevant codecs: Real media, Windows media video 9, VP6 (old flash codec, among other less important uses), theora (very used in the open-source comunity), dirac (probably will be pushed by BBC soon), MJPEG (used by many cancorders), any lossless or screen-recording codec, etc. Also, any new awsome codec that appear in comming years will be hurted by not being hardware-accelerated.

In addition to that, any non blue-ray or HD-DVD H.264 video that don't folow the unpublished DXVA standarts (that only recently are being discovery by trial and error) is problematic. Most re-encodes are not compatible. I'm not sure about the Mpeg4 ASP support at this time (things like GMC and qpel can still be an problem).

Also, the status of hardware acceleration on Linux is very bad.
