Well, I tried to hold out, I really did... but the prospect of a better overclock was too much. I've just bought a ud3p and I'll be saying goodbye to my p5q-e. My fingers are firmly crossed that I can reach 4.4-4.5GHz. I blame (thank) all of you in this thread!![]()

the learning curve begins again! I'll no doubt be over there asking for a whole lot of help! It seems that each motherboard I buy has far more bios settings than the previous one. I just hope the hype behind the ud3p is going to live up to expectation. Nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose...

i think you'll do just fine.and if you do run into any problems, there are alot of helpful people in that thread.i think you will be amazed with this board.

I can't wait to get it setup. My starting point shall be your template for 489*9. I doubt I've got an amazing Q9650 since it would probably shine on any board, but 4.4GHz would be great. My ram can certainly handle it as I know it can run 1200MHz without too much difficulty. If the ud3p doesn't help matter then I'll have to try another PSU as I think that's the weakest link in my system.
Jor3lBR; You should send gigabyte a link to this thread and they'll see what good work you've done! Are there any other templates I should check out btw?

Hey guys, do you think the heat of Q9450 (C1) @3600 (1.28v in windows) is comparable to Q9650 @4050 with ~1.21v?
A friend of my wants a new cpu for his 775 board and would buy my. I am thinking if the cooling will be sufficient (currently no problems with lapped Scythe) then why not go for 9x450.
p.s. seems like ~1.21v is what it takes for q9650 to get to 4ghz

Hey guys I'm having trouble getting my new Q9650 stable at 4200MHz with a 4GB load. it is stable at 4300MHz with a 2GB load. Situation is as follows:
I'm using a DFI DK P45 T2RS Plus, which untill my last E8600, had never let me down.
With my E8600 I did:
4500MHz (9.5x475) @ 1.344v and with 2x1024Mb OCZ Flex PC9600 @ 1188MHz 5-5-5-15 ( Prime small fft, Prime blend and Linpack stable )
I ran that setup for 6 month without any problems. Then I decided to upgrade my ram with another set OCZ PC9600 Flex, and that ran ran fine also:
4500MHz (9.5x475) @ 1.344v and with 4x1024Mb OCZ Flex PC9600 @ 1188MHz 5-5-5-15 ( Prime small fft, Blend and Linpack stable )
Then last week I sold my E8600 and got me a Q9650. Nice stepping L844B703, which I got stable at the following settings:
4300MHz (9x478) @ 1.344v and with 2x1024Mb OCZ Flex PC9600 @ 1200MHz 5-5-5-15 ( Prime small fft, Blend and Linpack stable )
So far so good. But....
... as soon as I add my second set of 2x1024MB OCZ Flex, things go bad. No matter what i try, I can't seem to get it stable during Prime Blend and Linpack.
Prime small fft however is stable, It finished a 8 hours torture run. But Prime blend will crap out after 2 seconds.
I tried backing down to 4200MHz but still Linpack will error at the fifth run and Prime blend just freezes after 30 minutes. So it seems that the CPU itself is not the culprit but rather the P45 chipset or the ram load.
I tried lowering NB straps and ram timings, tried every combo of GTL, vTT and NB volatges, nothing helps...
It looks like the 4x1024MB load is too heavy, but i don't understand... with my E8600 I could run it easily. What am I missing here? Is there a magic setting here for running a quad and 4GB. Or am I better off getting myself a 2x2048MB kit instead of this 4x1024MB setup. I don't mind getting myself a new kit, but i'm afraid I'll run in the same problems again.
Can any off you give me some pointers and share your insights on this? Is it possible to run a 4GB load on a (high) overclocked Q9650? on a DFI P45 board that is. Or am I better off getting a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P or perhaps a EP45-Extreme

As usual my luck with getting a good overclocker seems to avoid me.

Still tweaking, but I don't think there is much left.
