    Asus/NCIX Competiton Entry - dejanh

Edit: Updated BCLK result. Only 0.02MHz higher but hey, you never know, it may make a difference between winning or losing

Edit 2: Pics! I finally got some up on the second page of this thread. Head over there now to view Shows the components I used to build my chilled water setup, very simple but very effective. Don't hesitate to drop me a line but of course do it here in the thread so I get more replies!

Edit 3: Posted BIOS screens and verification image here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=115 Enjoy

Well, let's raise the bar a bit

Here are the default settings for the system. All reported voltages are what is set in the BIOS unless explicitly stated otherwise.

    CPU: Intel Core i7 940, 3836A405
Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme, 1201 BIOS (Beta)
DRAM: 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit, 8-8-8-24-2T
Graphics: BFG GeForce GTX 260 (216) 718/1223/1538 (core/shader/memory in MHz) w/ Custom VGA BIOS
    HD Drive(s): Generic Serial ATA
Optical Drive(s): LG LightScribe DVD+/- RW
    Display: NEC MultiSync LCD225WXM
Cooling: Custom Chilled Water Cooling w/ Coolit Freezone Elite TEC Cooler, Swiftech MCR220-QP Rad, Swiftec Micro Res V2, Stock Coolit FZE Block

Please note that for the BCLK test the BCLK is set to 222MHz in the BIOS but it does not show up any higher in Windows than 220.8MHz no matter what.

    Anyway, enough chatter

CPU Clock (HyperThreading On, 4 cores/8 threads): 4.73393 GHz
    CPU Voltage: 1.68125V
    QPI/DRAM Voltage: 1.56875V
    DRAM Voltage: 1.65681V

    BCLK: 220.82MHz Reported, 222MHz BIOS
    CPU Voltage: 1.10000V
    QPI/DRAM Voltage: 1.35000V

    DRAM: 1800MHz, 8-8-8-18-1T (from 1600MHz, 8-8-8-24-2T stock), 4320MHz Uncore
    CPU Voltage: 1.36875V
QPI/DRAM Voltage: 1.561V Actual (X.M.P. defaults to 1.35000V in BIOS but automatically increases with Uncore clock)
    DRAM Voltage: 1.65681V

Thanks for the props everyone. I'll be trying for higher as well so fingers crossed

I'm also considering picking up some 2k DRAM sticks and see how high I can push them, but no decisions yet. Unfortunately, I am not sure if we are doing maximum memory clock or bandwidth. Hopefully someone answers in the contest thread.

I used my Old Super Talent ProjectX DDR3-1800 CL7 sticks in my R2E and they can do DDR3-2053 when the i7 965 is at 35x128 with 8-7-6-20 1N Timings.

Yeah, I thought about that definitely. What voltages did the sticks require and did you run them in triple channel or no?

1.96v on the DRAM - so you just raise the Vtt to 1.55 to stay within .50v.

No issues - been doing it for 5 months.

Yep, I got it. I am not that concerned about pushing the VTT any more What's got to be done has got to be done hehe I'll post updates as I get them.

Well, I seem to be having trouble finding fast DDR3 DRAM from local shops. Everyone is stocking 1600s or below or selling faster sticks at silly prices. The low CAD $ is really hurting...

I've done some more tests this morning and it seems that I am at or very near the ceiling for clocks with this chip. More BCLK with 23x multiplier (Turbo) and I cannot boot into Windows. Lower multiplier and still higher BCLK is even worse. I feel like I am needing higher multipliers at this point. I even upped the voltage into the 1.75V range with no added stability even when going just one notch higher on BCLK up to 208MHz. Other settings like CPU PLL, higher IOH and ICH voltages, etc., did not seem to have any effect on stability. I will be doing more testing in the next few days. I wish I can get that darned clock generator to generate an accurate clock and not 207 ~ 206.8 or whatever...

Any ideas what to do here?

Thanks! Don't be shy to come back and post some more

I think I will be focusing on the business of memory now...Fugger confirmed that it is a pure MHz contest.

That and no more ES chips allowed!
