first of all, Dirk told that AMD will ramp-up 32nm in the middle of the next year! That doesn't translate in to a commercially available CPU in that time-frame... that means firing up 32nm equipment!

Second, that roadmap is the only piece of reliable info about future AMD processors, and according to that 32nm commercially available processors are coming in 2011.

Third... what's with this Bulldozer babbling? When was the last time that Bulldozer was officially mentioned or appeared in AMD roadmaps? Let's do some googling.....

3 years ago!!! Golden age of AMD... CTO was Phil Hester... Netburst was only thing that competition was offering! With passing of time, everything changed! Nothing is the same anymore, so why do people still think and write about Bulldozer, when AMD isn't mentioning that thing ever since 2007 tech days* is beyond me!?!

Right now they do (mostly, seems intel is taking more power again but they swap back and forth on that front), but I was referring to future 2010/2011. We don't know who will be in the lead then for sure. Assuming one or the other isn't too smart because it can change too quickly.

yah lol, the date on the link i followed there was dated feb 2008 and I didnt notice the correct date untill after I posted it. But its only 1.5 years ago so was still relevant.

AMD need 32nm and new micro-architecture to compete with Intel. So, they better make that happen; do not repeat what mistake they made in K10

i pretty sure they learned from their mistakes (they better test them before releasing them!)

Just as an FYI, but more than half of the 4-5 years that it takes to design a chip is spent on various aspects of verification (bug testing).

OK, I didn't notice that

But imho Intel has made it harder for AMD to get on top again with the Tick-Tock-model. The K8 was such a success because the giant was sleeping and struggling to keep up with their promises (the more MHz, the better) as well.

I mean, Orochi will be total ownage procesor as K8 in glory time. Exactly, i hope for it

They may have 22nm and two new architectures, but it won't be enough if it will come late.

32nm Clarkdale is Q4 2009. Gulftown is Q1 2010. Clarkdale have been pushed fordward I guess due to recession/depression.

45nm Lynnfield in very early Q3 2009 or so.
