    please help:

    my current setup:

mobo: asus p5e3 premium wifi @n
    ram: 2x1 ocz ddr3-1600
hd: seagate 1tb (cheapo--with the rebate)
    cpu: q9450
    video: radeon 3850
    os:xp

    ok so

everything worked fine until I upgraded the ram to 2x2 ddr3 2000 dominators....It worked for awhile...I pushed it to 1600 then 1800 then 2000 (and I played with the voltage a lot--settings from 1.74-1.96)...it worked at 1800, not at 2000 or 1900. Then I went back to 1800, where it froze after some hours, and then back to 1600.

memtest ran for 5 or 6 hours, 9 tests passed all.

I make music with a program called cubase (in addition to other things), so it's my main test. It worked fine for a day, so I used acronis true image to image a new blank drive se.2 (1tb) --the light server drive that's supposedly optimized for 24/7 use.

Now, the new hd, with the new ram (at 1600) worked fine for a day--but sort of. There were weird problems from the start--the task bar responded very slowly, for example--that is, I would start a program, and it would take 2-4 minutes until the taskbar appropriately reacted. Another example is the little bubbles that pop up in xp from the tray icons wouldn't go away for a few minutes after clicking the x.

At any rate, cubase worked for another day or so. Eventually, it just stopped working (I cannot recall whether it was immediate or gradual--I think gradual)--weird feedback would happen when I click play, and it stutters every .5 sec or so.

At this point I decided that i should run chkdsk; there were some errors, so I ran seagate diagnostics--it failed both the short and the long tests, so I figured it was a bad hd.

Thus, I went back to my old hd. But the same problems with cubase and the taskbar happened (seagate diagnostics pass on this hd). I ran prime 95 for 6 or so hours, no problems, and then ran chkdsk. It had some index entry issues (what does this mean?) so I did chkdsk /r and let it run. This morning I woke up with the same problems, so I just put in the old ram.

At this point everything is exactly as it was before I put in any new components (I didn't mention that I tried a lot of different bios configs, which had no effect on the problems; anyway, I had saved the old settings, so I'm back to them). But the problem still happens............any ideas?

by the way, I've just run chkdsk again, and it looks like there are more problems with index entries (which I have no idea about--it doesn't look like there are bad sectors though--I'm running hd tune error scan right now to check though).

    other info:
-I lost a 1 tb hd (same as the one i'm using now (the cheapo kind)) about a month ago--it started bsoding all the time and eventually xp wouldn't boot--just to safe mode. I can now run it about 20-30 min at a time in slave mode to extract data from it.
-about 6 months ago I stupidly ran it overnight without a fan. The cpu got up to around 90 apparently. But with a fan it idles around 40-45 and gets to 60 with prime 95--but it seems to work fine through prime 95 (and intellburn awhile ago), so I'm not too worried.

    I don't know what to do.....any ideas?

wow, I will have to read this and follow up on the above issue. I have the same type of RAM but in the DDR2 1200 version, OCZ FlEX EX PC2-9600, on the x38 Maximus so I hope it works out. I am also planning on a 2nd x48 ASUS and have it down to the P5E64-WS, Rampage Xtreme, and then the P5E3 Premium. I had great experiencee with stability in any of the WS workstation mobos but now favoring the ROG series. So my ??? is, does the ROG series offer moch more in trems of BIOS options over a WS or Premium vserion?

My ROG x38 is pretty much identical the P5E x38 version so is the P5E3 a base version of teh Rampage Xtreme in a simular way?

Can someone help me to find what is not right for that frequency and 465 MHz of FSB ?.My Ram are 2*2GB OCZ platinum 7-7-7-24.

    My setting are that

    CPU Ratio 8.5
    FSB Strap 400
    FSB Freq 450
DRAM Freq ~1350 not sure but on windows in CpuZ it 1500MHz
    Dram Cmd Rate 2N
    Timing 7-7-7-24-2T
    Static Read Disabled
    Static Write Disabled
    CPU Voltage 1.425

For 465 FSB and the 2 hours and 10 minute I have pass is was with this setting.

    CPU Ratio 8.5
    FSB Strap 400
    FSB Freq 465
    DRAM Freq ~1350 not sure

I've had some weird HD issues as well. I have 3 500GB 7200.11s
Try running SeaTools Dos and do a long run.

    @ Newal

Do you use the latest bios? Maybe your current bios version has problems with 1800+ Mhz modules. I had this board before and had major problems with OCZ 1600 EB-edition memory to get it stable at rated specs (see previous pages in this thread). I exchanged it for Corsair 2x1Gb 1800Mhz and ran fine at 1860Mhz still at rated specs. In the meantime there was already a bios update released that I applied so maybe, but I'm not sure, that did the trick for me.

Moreover if you want you 2000Mhz modules to run at that speed you will definately need the rated voltage for those modules. Look at the Corsair site for information about this. You will also need a lot of voltage on the NB. I need around 1.63v for my 1800Mhz modules to run stable at 467FSB. Don't forget to aim a fan at the NB as well when going over 1.6v.

    @ Sectorz

I would advise you to use an extra NB fan. For example aim a 80mm, 90mm or 120mm on the NB to provide extra cooling when setting bios at 1.61+v. There is a huge chance that Prime fails because the NB gets too hot. I read somewhere on this forum or on Asus forum that the NB may only get around 40 - 45 degrees. That's not very much if you take into account that your mobo in general is already 30 degrees. Giving the NB extra cooling gave me a lot more stability.

Hey guys, new bios 0704 is on the Asus page.

I did a max fsb test on air with an E8500. Got to 615fsb for a 1m with 1.65 vnb, 1.5vtt 1.58 vpll. I probably need better mobo cooling. Australian summers aren't the best for air cooling heh.

Next time I want to enable the overvoltage jumpers and test with a cascade

    Edit: 620fsb validation

I did some testing yesterday with the new 0704 bios and my Q9450 to see if any improvements were noticed.

I am now able to run DDR3-1900Mhz 8-7-6-18-1T with my 2x2GB D9GTS sticks which was in no way possible after days and days of testing on the previous bios. I will post some pics when I get home from work. The bios changes state "better memory compatibility."

Anyone help me hit 3.6ghz stable on this board?

    I got a Q9450 with Corsair DD3 1600 Ram 9-9-9-24

I did a mild OC to 3.2 without any problems.. Would love some help getting it to 3.6.

I just would love a template to try.... I don't know what are safe temps on air cooling would love to know. Thanks.

Look through this thread and/or the Q9450 thread since I personally have posted many many times different settings with my Q9450/P5E3 Premium combo. I would keep your load temps under 70C on air and you should be fine. NB cooling on that Board is needed, I had a nice 60mm fan blowing on my NB which kept it cool to the touch.

Alright I'll go grab a fan, from Frys. I'll browse through the board to find people's specs. Thank you very much.

Deachus I was reading most these posts... till around now.... did you have to slow down your ram in order to become stable or is that a thing of the past? I notice people are going 20:10 ratio etc... or maybe thats just how everest reads.... Can you now link and sync with the settings I see in your posts and still be stable? I use OCCT and when I used 450FSB and vcore 1.33 and northbridge 1.5 is gives me an error. Any suggestions?

That was just they way Everest reported, I could run my D9GTS sticks up to 2040Mhz. My P5E3 Premium has amazing memory performance, one thing I miss with my new P5Q3 Deluxe motherboard. I'm at work now but can send you some shots and I have quite a few BIOS profiles for the P5E3 Premium that you can mess with. I actually just took the d/l links out of my sig a week or so ago. Thought everyone was done with this Board. I have since moved my Q9450/P5E3 Premium combo into my media server.

Alright sweet bro im using the newest BIOS 0704 or whatever it was ... it has a 7 im not at home right now just like you so...haha.... And actually I went from a 790i Ultra to this to stop the freezing issues I had and crackeling with the board. I couldn't afford to get a i7... just too expensive right now. I just play WoW mainly and other newer games.

In order to get my 9450 stable at 3.6 I had to use 1.7v on my NB. Obscene, I know - this board really doesn't like quads.

Do you have to take off the jumper to get that high? I can't even hit 1.6nb to boot.

    Hey guys,

Does anyone had problems with freezing while POSTing? I can't even go into BIOS. It comes to AMI screen, recongnize mobo, cpu and ram then stops on "Initializing USB Controller" = picture.
I've tried everything by now. CCMOS, battery out for 22 hours, other cpu, one stick of the memory in every slot, removing all USB devices, removing disk/optical devices... The newest BIOS is up there but doesn't matter when the board has been working normally at the seller. I watched around the board but didn't see any damages on it. I don't know what to say anymore, if someone had this problem or have some idea how to fix it (except RMA) please tell me.

@GreatMilenko, you don't gotta take the NB OV jumper off unless you need 1.9v higher (really shouldn't need that much though)

@SoulsCollective; SECONDED, only just scraping by at 1.65v for my NB causing 50°C and upwards

It used bother me but why worry - seems these boards are suicidal (we're doing them a favour)

hey fellas, been playin with this board for over 6 months now. using a e8500 and getting awesome cpu overclocks with ease. Ive got some OCZ 1600mhz platinum kit that sucks hairy monkey balls. basically Im seriously lucky to get it running at 1333 consistently... dont tell me about settings honestly I have tried everything skews/voltage/ northbridge you name it, and wasted a lot of my life trying to get this set to work 0803 seems alot better though... What I want to know is can you honestly get any of these 2000 mhz kits to work... corsair dominator maybe? What is the best stable fast memory for this baby. Its probably not the place to ask fellas with decent stable systems arent goin to be lookin in forums where everyones got issues. Should I just sell this board and get a decent high end rampage or something... after this would probably prefer non asus though. whats a kick arse 775 ddr3 board....?

Anyway Im gonna try to check out this thread as often as I can and if your thinkin of gettin this board just dont get the ocz platinum..... no matter what anyone tries to tell you its not friggin compatible I RMA'd my ram twice trust me dont go there or you will feel the pain.
