I've been reading this thread over the last few days after picking up a new Q9650. L843B805. I'm running it on a EVGA 780i A1 which comes to my surprise it isn't one of the better boards. Well it's what I have to work with so I will throw out a few things to see if I can get a few tips.

I've done my best over on their forums but they seem to be a bit less active than this thread. And you guys seem to have a handle on this better than most.

Right now my rig is running at 4000.5 445X9 and my Vcore is set to 1.40 bios which reads 1.376 in CPU-Z.

I've been hesitant to go above that vcore setting without really understanding the temps and what I should be looking for. So far this thread has vcore settings anywhere from 1.27 all the way up to 1.5 and so on.

She boots fine and I have yet to have it crash on anything other that Prime95 with the Small FTT test.

Under idle it runs low 30C and under Blend it will run mid 40-50Cs Under Small it will go up to around 60C.

I'm also running an older Zalman 9700 LED which I've read isn't cutting it at these speeds anymore.

So question is it worth getting it Small FTT stable and if so am I okay to keep going up in vcore? What Temps should I watch out for...

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Under 65c load would be fine imo, some say 70c is ok.
Your temps are decent for air cooling and if your happy with your rig at 4.0GHz then why bother to play with it. If your able to use it 24/7 and have zero issues then I would say do not fix whats not broken, if your looking to squeeze a few drops more out of the chip then post your bios setup and we can make some suggestions and help get you where you want to be.

What cooling do u have? If water, have u a back plate? Too tight? Lapping may not help in all situations...

Edit: Well, i see u have a Big Typhoon

Well I finally had my first crash under normal gaming... So I'm looking really for stability at this point. I think I have very conservative numbers so far but I just don't know the bounderies.

    Here are my current settings

    Q9650@ 4000.5 Ghz 445X9
vcore in Bios is set to 1.4 CPU-Z is 1.38
    CPU FSB 1.3
    Mem 1.9 (Stock)
    SPP 1.45
    MCP 1.55
    HT- SPP-MCP 1.25

    All Spread Spectrum Disabled

Temps are low 30C at idle and under normal game load low 50C. Under Small FTT they reach low 60C. CPU Cooler Zalman 9700 LED

Goal is stability and of course I would like to go higher if possible...

To find help you will be better of looking into Evga specific forum or look for your mobo thread here in XS.

The problem you're facing is more related to your mobo bios settings then to the Q9650 (what this thread is about).
