12 GB at 1800Mhz or higher?

I'm interested in two 6 GB sets of TR3X6G2000C8GTF for 12 GB usage on a Gigabyte Extream, using a i7 Core 965 chip for 247 usage.

    Bootsy did it using a P6T: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=219488

So, am thinking the same for the GB Extream?

On the P6T maybe I've had 12 GB running at 1866 (Dominator kits) on a Giga board I'd say maybe 1720. Giga is just pickier at high frequencies.

Nate over on Legit tried it with 16 GB and got 1720ish ut I don't know how much time he invested in it. QPI voltage would have to be about scorching.

Would it make any difference if they are water-cooled, would it help?

If these high MHz can't be reached, would somethng like 1600MHz or as you suggest 1720MHz be more realistic?

I spent a good day trying to hit 1800Mhz and tried with a few sets of triple-channel kits and wasn't able to reach it ;(

    1700MHz was rock solid though.

As for cooling... I used the Corsair AirFlow II and they weren't even warm to the touch, so I don't think it is heat related.

That is pretty interesting, thank you for that, I read it.

Question that I have in my head is it better to run 6 GB at over 2000MHz or 12 GB at 1600-1700MHz?

Depends on if you need 12GB. The 6GB at 2000 would be faster unless your paging.

I have not tried multiple VMs, huge 3d, Photoshop 4 yet but with ANY game or benchmark, I cannot get Vista 64 to use the page file outside normal minor OS paging. With 3GB, game data is constantly swapping. With 6GB there zero game data being swapped. So, unless you know for a fact you need more than 6GB, I'd say a fast 6GB kit is your best option.
